Dear Navin Families & Friends,
April showers bring May Flowers, but it seems like March was the month sending us plenty of rain! It’s actually hard to believe that April has arrived
and that we only have two months of school remaining. Time is flying by for sure!
Lots happening this month as we continue our state testing for grades 3 and 4. In addition to this, we have an Author visiting, PTO Flower Sale,
Father/Daughter Dance, Spring Pictures and much, much more! Please see additional happenings in our “Dates to Remember” section below.
Busy, busy month!
So…you may have heard that our students were finally able to collect their “reward” for reading over 300,000 minutes for our Read-A-Thon! Their
reward started with an epic battle between T-Rex & Godzilla (on the roof no less!) and culminated in an assembly where I was lucky enough to kiss
the cutest pig EVER! In addition, several of our staff “performed” some crazy songs as well. Special thanks to Kelly Doty, Hillary Weiser, Mandie
Poe, Emily Miller, Erin Morrison, Kristin Lee, Lacie Wrenn, Melissa Batke, Alex Falzarano, Katie Fisher, Courtney Potts, heather MacLaughlin,
Shelly Malany, Steve Griffin, Kristin Raiter, Carrie Plourde, Jeff Lenczowski, Abby Helmuth, Amy Connolly & Annie Henry for making such special
memories for our kids. Extra special thanks to Alison Brennan & Sara Nichols for putting this all together (Read-A-Thon & Assembly!)
Happy Spring!!
Yours in Partnership,
Lynette Lewis

Navin 2016-17
Good Apple Award
Each year a Good Apple Award is presented by each
building within the District to an individual or
organization that has made significant contributions to
our schools.
If you have a child who will be 5 years old by
September 30, 2017, he or she will be eligible to
enroll as a kindergarten student with Marysville
Exempted Village School District for the 2017-18
school year.
This year’s Navin Good Apple Award is presented to
Jason and Heather Young. Heather is our PTO Co-Vice
President, a room mom, and spends much of her time
volunteering at Navin. She and Jason have both
volunteered for Book Fair, Cookie Sale pick-up, Books
and Bingo, Food Drive, and Field Day, along with many
other events.
All 2017-18 kindergarten students will attend all
day, every day. Please call your child's residential
school to schedule a registration appointment
today.
It is our privilege to recognize Jason and Heather for
their commitment to Navin. Congratulations and thank
you for having a positive impact on our school!
Thanks to Navin parents & students for making last
month’s Scholastic Book Fair such a success! Our
students love it and look forward to it so much!
Special thanks to all our parent volunteers who
worked the Fair, and to Carol Cusack, our “Book Lady”
for her hard work in organizing this event.
Here’s what the Book Fair does for our school:
 Book Fair profits will purchase a book for
every Navin student as an end of the year gift
from PTO
 Purchased 160 books as rewards for Read-AThon participation
 Provided $5 gift certificates for Bingo & Books
winners
 $200 of books for grade 1 (winners of the “Be
Who You Are” contest)
 50 books for registering Kindergarteners
 Books for the Navin Library
The Book Fair profits are always put to good use & go
right back to our school & students! Win-Win!

School Absences
When your child is going to be absent from school, Ohio law (“Missing
Children’s Act”) requires schools to contact parents of the child if the
absence has not been called into the school office. The intent of the law
is to notify parents as soon as possible that their child is not in school in
case of kidnapping, truancy or other dangerous situations a child may
encounter on the way to school without the parents’ knowledge. YOU
can help make the Ohio Law protect our students. If your child is going
to be absent from school, the following is necessary:
1.
2.
3.
Call the school absence line at (937)578-7015
Send a note (or doctor excuse) to school with your child the day
he/she returns to regular classes.
*Also, please remember, when signing your student in and out of
school, you must still write a note or provide a doctor’s excuse.
MONDAY, MAY 22ND, 2017

COOLEST day of the school year!!
Yep…NAVIN FIELD DAY!
Get ready for a day of FUN! Watch for
more information regarding t-shirts,

**SPECIAL UPDATE FROM THE PRINCIPAL**
AM DROP-OFF PROCEDURES
Recently, we have noticed some concerns regarding morning drop off procedures.
This is a gentle reminder to those that may be new to the process or veterans who
need a little refresher. Our hope is to move the line along efficiently, but above all,
ensure that your child safely arrives to school.
Drop-off procedures: Please pull forward to the furthest spot possible during drop off (to the furthest staff member on
the sidewalk). If everyone pulls forward, several students can be exiting vehicles simultaneously, making the line move
faster and more efficiently.
We appreciate that sometimes you can run a bit late in the mornings; however, it is not acceptable to double park, block
the traffic flow, and/or pull up next to the line of cars who have been waiting to drop off your child. If you find yourself
in a hurry, please park in a parking spot and walk your child to the side-walk safely. Students are not permitted to walk
in-between cars when dropped off. We have some students that take a little more time than others to exit their vehicles.
Please try your best to be patient. It is dangerous to aggressively pull out of line and maneuver around waiting cars.
To help move the line along please try to ensure that your child is prepared to exit your vehicle when it’s your turn (coat
is on, book bag/lunch box is in hand, hair is fixed, breakfast is eaten, etc.). We realize that sometimes things come up, so
please always feel free to park in an open spot and escort your child to the sidewalk if needed. Additionally, when your
child is safely on the sidewalk, please move forward in line.
Thank you for partnering with us to make sure all students arrive safely and all parents/guardians make it to work/other
engagements on time.
