ALGEBRA TO GEOMETRY SUMMER REVIEW PACKET OPTIONAL (RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED) Purpose #1: To stay current with your Algebra I skills and prepare for the start of school year throughout the summer. Purpose #2: The Geometry Course has many of the Algebra skills taught last year embedded into each chapter. It is critical for student’s success to keep their Algebra skills sharp and to ensure students are focused on learning the new Geometry concepts and skills and not still learning or re-learning Algebra skills from last year. Potential Plan for Completion of Packet: The packet is OPTIONAL. If you are doing the packet the following would be a good game plan: June – do the Odds. July do the Evens. Due Date: Turn the packet into your Geometry Teacher on the first day of school. Incentive: Students with completed packets will be given 100% on that assignment and will receive 3 - 100% HW passes which can be applied to any homework assignment turned in that did not receive 100% or 1 - 10% increase on a Quiz. Expectation of student work: Complete the packet prior to the first day of school. (Recommended, but not Required) Show all your work on the packet or separate sheets of paper. o Be sure to turn in all your work if you do use separate paper or Notebook. o Be sure to clearly number all your problems. If you are struggling on a problem, use the internet or other resources. o Reason: Being a geometry student is about THINKING and APPROACHING problems from different perspectives to achieve the correct solution. o Suggested Internet Site for additional help would be Khan Academy If you misplace or lose the packet, then visit the Eisenhower website to download and print a new one. Chapter R and Fall Algebra Test: For the first week or two of school, we will cover “Chapter R”. Concepts from last year which were reviewed over the summer will be reviewed in more depth to allow for complete mastery of Algebra 1 and its most critical topics. There will be a Test over this material after Chapter R is completed. Students will be expected to score an 85% or better. Students who do not meet these criteria will go through a re-teaching process and be re-evaluated through an additional assessment. o Students will be expected to continue working through the current geometry material while going through their re-teaching process. o Opportunities for extra support will be available for students as needed. The geometry course is loaded with previously taught algebra skills. Mastery of these algebra skills are critical to the success of students in the geometry course in order to focus on the new geometry material and not those previously learned algebra concepts.
