Ethnicity groups differ from success and retention data. These data include a “Two or more races” category. Intersession data are included with Spring data in these analyses. Economic Disadvantage was defined as those receiving a BOG waiver, which is awarded based on financial need. PROGRAM REVIEW – ACCESS BY EQUITY GROUPS 2015‐2016 Department: Culinary Arts Trends ‐ GENDER In fall 2014, the Culinary Arts Department was composed of 52.0% females and 46.0% males. Compared to the overall OCC population, the department had 5.1% more females and ‐5.0% fewer males than the college as a whole. Four‐year trends indicate female headcount in the Culinary Arts Department has decreased since fall 2011 by ‐2.9% and male headcount has increased by 4.9%. Spring headcount trends over the past four years are similar—female headcount has decreased by ‐0.9% and male headcount has increased by 1.3%. Summer trends follow a similar pattern to the primary semesters. Trends ‐ AGE The majority of students in the Culinary Arts Department in fall 2014 were 20 to 24 years old (40.7%). The smallest percentage of students enrolled in the department were students 35 years or older (15.7%). Compared to the overall OCC population, the department enrolled older students than the college as a whole. Over the past four years, this headcount pattern has remained consistent. The groups with the largest change in headcount over the past four years was students ages 35 or older (increased in headcount) and students less than 20 years old (decreased in headcount). Trends – ETHNICITY White students comprised the majority of students (33.9%) in the Culinary Arts Department in fall 2014. The smallest percentage of students enrolled in the department were American Indian/Alaska Native students (0.4%) and Black/African‐
American students (2.0%). Compared to the overall OCC population, the department enrolled slightly more diverse students than the college as a whole. Over the past four years, this headcount pattern has remained consistent. The group with the largest change in headcount over the past four years was White students, which has decreased in this time period. Trends – DISABILITY Of the students enrolled in the Culinary Arts Department in fall 2014, 6.5% were students with a disability. The overall OCC population of students with a disability was 3.6% in fall 2014, a difference of 2.9% from the department headcount. Because of the small sample size of students with disabilities at OCC, four‐year trends are not presented. Trends – ECONOMIC DISADVANTAGE The Culinary Arts Department enrolled 56.9% students who were economically disadvantaged in fall 2014. Overall at OCC, disadvantaged students made up 53.0% of the population in fall 2014, a 3.9% difference compared to the department percentage. Four‐year trends indicate disadvantaged student headcount in the Culinary Arts department has increased since fall 2011 by 16.5%. Spring and summer four‐year trends followed a similar pattern. Trends – VETERAN In fall 2014, the Culinary Arts Department enrolled 0.8% veterans. Compared to the overall OCC population, the department had ‐0.9% fewer veterans than the college as a whole. Because of the small sample size of the OCC veteran population, four‐year trends are not presented. Trends – FOSTER YOUTH The Culinary Arts Department had 1.2% foster youth students enrolled in fall 2014. The percent of foster youth enrolled in the department was smaller compared to the overall OCC population by ‐0.5%.
