Welcome to the State of New Jersey’s Unclaimed Property Sealed Bid
Auction at the ‘Atlantique City’ antique show in Atlantic City,
March 18-20, 2005.
The items listed in the State’s catalogue are from safe deposit boxes that
have been unclaimed by their owners for more than five years. The holders
of unclaimed safekeeping contents are required under N.J.S.A. 46:30B-45 to
report these items to the State. The proceeds from the sale of safekeeping
items will be held in the Unclaimed Property Trust Fund in the names of the
rightful owners until these owners are reunited with their property.
Please be sure to read the attached Terms and Conditions and bidding rules
before bidding on any items.

RULES OF SEALED BID AUCTION
1. The State will provide a catalog of lots with the appraiser’s descriptions. Each lot
will be on hand to view by the prospective bidders. The lots will be available for
inspection in person at our Unclaimed Property booth during the hours of the Antique
Show only. The items on hand may only be viewed in the sealable package. Removal
from package is prohibited. No exceptions.
2. New Jersey Treasury Department employees and their immediate family members are
prohibited from bidding.
3. The State will provide a minimum bid amount for each lot. No bids below the
minimum bid will be honored. No exceptions.
4. Bids must be in dollar increments (you may not bid in cents). Bids made with cents
will be accepted with the dollar amount only and the cents will be omitted (rounded
down). No exceptions.
5. Purchasers must use the attached Sealed Bid Form to qualify for a winning bid. All
requested information on the form is required for the bid to be valid. The Sealed Bid
Form shall be hand delivered to a State Representative at the Unclaimed Property
booth. Bids will be accepted until 12:00 noon on Sunday, March 20, 2005.
6. Ties: All ties of highest bids will be settled as follows; the bidders with the same bid
will be notified of a tie and asked to bid up the lot, if they so choose. If there is a
second tie the same process will be completed. After the tie is settled only the
winning bidder will be notified.
7. Winning bids will be available at the Unclaimed Property Booth (# 2182), 2:00 pm
Sunday. Winning bidders can pay and take possession of lots, Sunday. Others will be
notified by telephone by March 23, 2005. All sales are final, “As is”.
8. Purchaser must follow the Terms of Payment:
Winning Bidders can pay at the Shows Office by credit card, check verification or cash.
Payment fees are as follows: credit card-5% (maximum fee $250), check verification-3%
(maximum fee $150), cash- no fee. All fees are to be paid by purchaser.
Winning bidders that are notified after the show must make payment postmarked within
three (3) days after notification by the State of the winning bids. If payment is not
received or postmarked within three (3) business days after notification the purchase
will be null and void and the next highest bidder will be awarded the sale. Winning

DESCRIPTION OF ITEMS
An independent certified appraiser has viewed all items. The State of New Jersey
contracted an appraiser to determine a fair market value for the items. Descriptions of
items are provided as a guide. Goldmarks on items are accepted as marked, have been
assayed and where there are discrepancies it will be stated. Stones were not removed
from their mountings for testing or weighing. The State of New Jersey assumes no
liability as to the accuracy of any descriptions, quantity, weight, grade, quality, purity,
value, or any other features(s).
ESTIMATED SELLING PRICE
As a convenience to the buyers, a minimum selling price has been provided. This selling
price is the minimum bid that the State of New Jersey will accept to purchase the items.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE
The State of New Jersey, reserves the right to add to or withdraw from the auction any
items listed or not listed, when it is in the best interest of the State. Changes to terms and
conditions of sale, may be announced before or during the course of the auction.
All items are sold AS IS, The State provides no warranty concerning these items, either
expressed or implied. The State shall not be responsible for the correct description,
authenticity, genuineness, or defect in any lot and makes no warranty in connection
therewith. No allowance, refund or set aside will be made on account of any
incorrectness, error in cataloging, imperfection, defect, or damage. Any descriptions or
representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a
warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have inspected thoroughly
the merchandise and to have satisfied himself or herself as to its condition and value and
to bid based upon that judgement.
The State maintains sole authority to resolve disputes. The State’s decision shall be final
and absolute. All questions or disputes regarding buyer, lot identity, price or quantity
must be resolved immediately upon the sale of said lot. No changes or adjustments will
be made at any later time. The record of the sale kept by the State will be considered
final in the event of any dispute.

Unclaimed Property will notify the winning bidders not in attendance at our booth by
telephone on March 23, 2005. Those winning bidders will be informed of the amount due
including shipping, handling and insurance fees for the courier service. The purchaser
assumes all risks whatsoever of damage or loss to property and specifically releases the
State from liability for items that are shipped by courier service. In addition, the State shall
not be liable for any damage or defect of the items in a lot subsequent to their being picked
up in person by the buyer.
All descriptions of items for sale contained herein or provided orally or in writing at the
time of the auction are believed to be correct. The State makes no representation or
warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy of any such description, and hereby
specifically disclaims any such warranty. The buyer specifically agrees with and
acknowledges the State’s appraisal description of items when describing articles of jewelry.
Gold or silver content means only that the State believes that the article described has been
tested as to the gold or silver content, but the State makes no warranty that the gold or silver
content is as described. Likewise, the description of an article as a diamond or other gem or
the description of an article as being of a particular brand does not constitute any
representation or warranty that the article is as described. The buyer hereby agrees to rely
solely on his/her own expertise to determine the value of any item purchased rather than the
description of any article contained in the catalog by the State.
The buyer agrees that the act of submitting a bid shall constitute acceptance of each and
every term and condition contained in these Rules as well as any additional terms and
conditions which may be posted at the auction or which may be announced by the State.
The buyer agrees that in any dispute between the seller and the buyer or between
competing bidders arising in connection with any sale at the auction, the State shall have
the right but not the obligation to settle such dispute. The buyer shall abide by the
decision of the State, and said decision shall be final with respect to such matter. The
buyer further agrees to indemnify the State for all liabilities, damages, costs, and
expenses including attorneys fees incurred in connection with any such dispute or in
connection with any claim, litigation, controversy, dispute or proceeding arising from any
purchase of an article by the buyer or from any subsequent sale of such article to any
third party.

Offered is this extremely important & rare 1885 St.
Louis Browns Baseball World Series
Championship pin. This pin was presented to
Robert Caruthers by the citizens of St. Louis. The
pin was made by Mermod and Jaccare. The pin is
constructed of mixed metals being multi color gold
& silver. Also inset into the top of the pin are
small diamonds. This is an extremely important
piece of baseball history. Caruthers was a pitcher
for the St. Louis Browns & batted .342 in 1886.
He was also a 40 game winner twice as a pitcher.
Many baseball historians argue that he should be a
Hall of Famer.
