Dear Parents and Friends
What a great week we have had in school! We started off with the Happy Puzzle Company running workshops for
the day on Monday, working with children from Reception to Year 6. It was fascinating to see the children
working as teams to solve challenges, establishing themselves as leaders, negotiating and compromising. Years 5
and 6 had the opportunity to visit Yarm Auditorium on Tuesday morning to meet author Jonathan Stroud.
Thursday saw World Book Day celebrated in true Kirklevington style, with staff and children dressing up as book
characters. We were amazed by the quality of the book artefacts produced by the children at home and hope to
be able to display these around school before they are returned. (Photos of the artefacts and some of the
children have been posted on Facebook.) It was lovely to see so many parents in school to look at puzzles on
Monday night and to view our book artefacts on Thursday.

World Book Day
On Thursday, the 3rd March, it was World Book Day. Everyone dressed up as a book character, such as: Alice In
Wonderland; Harry Potter: The Wizard Of Oz, characters from Star Wars and many more. We swapped
classrooms and completed different activities. We all did a project for homework to make a book-related
artefact. All the models for our project were judged in assembly by Mrs Charnock. It was a really fun day!

Happy Puzzle Day
On Monday, the Happy Puzzle Company came to visit us. They started us off with a very tricky puzzle for the
class to solve together, but once we solved it, we were split up into teams of four. We had lots more hard but fun
puzzles to solve, such as: the penguins-on-the-iceberg challenge, the road challenge and the ‘hamster run’
challenge. There weren’t many rules, but there was one that everyone had to follow – never give up!

Jonathan Stroud Author Visit
On Tuesday, Year 5 and 6 went to Yarm School Auditorium to see the author, Jonathan Stroud, who writes scary
stories. He talked about how he became a writer and then about his latest series, Lockwood and Co. He also read
some of his first book in the Lockwood series, The Screaming Staircase.
By Sarah, Chloe and Millen.
Mother’s Day After School Club
Lots of children joined the members of St Martin’s Church for their Mother’s Day craft session on Thursday
night. They enjoyed making crafts and icing cakes, in preparation for the Mother’s Day service in church on
Sunday morning, which everyone is welcome to attend.
Thank you for your continued support.
