Battle of the Books Permission/Contract
Battle of the Books is a program in which teams of four to six students compete to answer
detailed questions about a specific list of 15 books (attached). Each team must read all 15
books and each individual must read four of the 15 titles and complete a book reminder form
for each of their four books. They may read more than four of the books if they choose to do so
(but do not need to complete reminders for additional books read). Due dates are listed on the
book reminder form, and on the Battle of the Books web page:
http://kawameeh.twpunionschools.org/subsites/mlewis/Battle-of-the-Books/index.html
Team registration forms and permission forms must be turned in by November 4, 2016. Once
registration is submitted, the student is committed to the program for the whole year. He/she
may not drop out, because that would unfairly jeopardize the status of the whole team.
Students should choose their team carefully, and be prepared to work together all year.
Students who will not do the reading should not sign up.
The program runs from December through April or June. Team members have approximately
one month to read each book they select. Team practices will be scheduled during lunches in
December, January, February and March, and attendance is mandatory. Any team that is
unable to score 40 points (50%) in the final practice will be eliminated from competition.
Kawameeh’s Student Battles will take place in April 2017. The first place team at each grade will
then compete against other schools. The Interscholastic Battle will be in May 2017. Winning
seventh and eighth grade teams will compete against Kawameeh staff teams in June 2017.
For a child to participate, a permission slip must be turned in with the team registration form.
Please fill out the form below for your child. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Lewis,
the librarian, at 908-851-6582 or email [email protected].
If your child would like to participate, but does not have a team, he/she may hand in a
permission form, and I will do my best to try to find him/her a place on a team.
