Spare Tire location and any special equipment required for changing it

This vehicle requires the special shorter lug bolts to mount
the spare tire.
They are located in a special container in the center
of the spare wheel. (See pic at right.)
The spare tire is located in the trunk, under the
floor mat.

Second tray is exposed.
Lift up second tray by strap at back edge and lock
into place at base of rear window edge.
Hook edge of strap onto edge below rear window.

Spare tire is found under this cover.
Rotate tool kit assembly counterclockwise.

Lift tool kit assembly out and set it aside.
Shorter lug bolts are located in the center of the
wheel, (on backside).
Pull wheel out of car and pry plastic container off
the center of the wheel that contains the shorter
lug bolts.

Some SLs are not equipped with a spare tire
(i.e., SL63 with P030 Performance Package)
Spare is located in the trunk under floor.
Lift up trunk floor with handle in rear.
Spare tire is in the middle.

Remove the tray that holds tools and pump,
(lift out).
Center of Spare wheel is held down by a clamp.

Loosen by turning clockwise).
Lift out spare tire and inflate to 36 lbs using
electric inflator, (plug into cigarette lighter).

LUG BOLTS TO HOLD THE SPARE ON.
E55 AMG Wagon with foldable third row seats do not have
spare, instead has Tirefit
Spare tire – (which is a compact spare), is located
in the trunk, (below the trunk mat).

After lifting trunk floor and locking it into place,
remove secondary spare tire cover by removing
two white fasteners near the front edge.
White fasteners can be removed with screwdriver
or by hand.

Lift out cover and set it aside.
Spare tire will be revealed.
Turn large round black hold-down clamp
counterclockwise and remove it.

Spare tire can now be lifted out of the car.
Spare tire is a reduced-size wheel and tire.
MAX SPEED 50 mph / 500 miles – NO SPECIAL
lugs required.
SPARE SHOULD BE INFLATED TO 60 LBS Pressure

Spare is located on rear door.
Spare tire cover must first be unlocked.
Put special spare tire key into lock on underside.
Newer G-Class does not require key, use screwdriver from
tool kit.
Turn key counterclockwise, then swing
down lockplate.

Unhook safety gate from under key latch cover.
Remove outer tire covering housing (set aside).

Tread portion of spare tire is now exposed – pull
center cover straight off towards rear.
Now remove tool kit which is under right side
rear Seat
IMPORTANT: SPARE TIRE IS UNI-DIRECTIONAL, so owner
should have the flat fixed immediately and have the original
tire put back on vehicle AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

This vehicle may require shorter lug bolts.
Here is a picture of the shorter required lug bolt
(right side), next to the standard lug bolt (left side).
The spare tire is located in the rear compartment
under the floor. Open the rear tailgate to gain
access to the floor of the compartment. Fold down
the third row seats by pushing the fold-down seat
buttons in the right rear of the compartment.

Push and hold the buttons until the seats
fold flat.
Once the seats are folded down, remove the
retractable shade by pushing and collapsing it
by moving the end piece about 1 inch towards
the middle of the car, then push it forward and
remove it.

Open the spare tire cover by pulling up on the
release lever and lift the floor upward.
The spare tire is under the cover.
To keep this cover open, take the strap from
the right side and hook it to the weather strip
at the top edge of the compartment opening.

Once the cover is secured, the spare tire and tools
are revealed.
To remove the spare tire, first remove the jack out
of the tool tray.
To remove the jack, undue the velcro strap holding
it in place.

Lift the jack up and out.
Set the jack aside.
Now that the jack is removed, you can reach
into the tool tray and turn the hold-down clamp
counterclockwise to remove the tray and spare.

Turn the clamp several turns counterclockwise and
then lift it out.
You may have to tilt the clamp a small amount so it
clears the cover.

Once the clamp is removed, remove the tool tray
(you may have to rotate tool tray to get it out).
Lift the tool tray out of the spare tire and remove it.
Here is a picture of the tool tray.
Set the tool tray aside and lift the spare tire out.

This vehicle may require shorter lug bolts to mount
the spare tire to the vehicle.
Please note - the ML63 AMG may be equipped with an
inflatable spare tire and an air pump.
Here is a picture of the shorter required lug bolt
(right side) next to the standard lug bolt (left side).
The spare tire is located in the rear compartment
under the floor.
Open the rear tailgate to gain access to the
compartment under the floor.
Pull up on release lever and lift the floor up towards
the front of the vehicle.

Lock the floor forward and the spare tire will
be revealed.
Remove the spare tire by turning the center plastic
clamp counterclockwise. Lift the spare out and the
tool kit will be revealed.

The spare tire is a collapsible spare tire – it MUST
be inflated.
Vehicle tool kit
The vehicle tool kit can be found in the stowage
well under the trunk floor.
Vehicles with a TIREFIT kit: lift the trunk floor up.
