What’s Happening in Room 421…
Math: We will wrap up dividing decimals this week with a lot of practice
to sharpen our long division skills which are still in need of a tune up! On
Tuesday of next week, we will assess decimal division. Our focus next
week will be decoding decimal word problems and choosing the proper
operation(s). Students need to continue to master their multiplication and
division facts as these will be the basis for ALL other Math concepts in
fifth grade. Students should be bringing home their journals each night to
review concepts and assist with any homework questions. Our Math
centers will be: teacher group(s), technology, decimal tasks, word
problems, projects, and Math journals.
Reading/Language Arts: We will finish the novel, Phantom Tollbooth
on November 20th. The final test for the book will be on November 21st.
Some reading skills we have been focusing on while reading this book
are: comparing/contrasting characters and settings, inferences, and
vocabulary skills.
Look for your child’s Reader’s Mountain update on Wednesday 11/13.
Students should be about halfway done.
Our vocabulary root word this week is “ben" and next week it will be "mal”.
Science/Social Studies: We will begin Plant Classification next week
