Client Directed Services February 2017 Staff Profile - Lisa Taylor, Accounts Payable Specialist Lisa Taylor works for MRCI-CDS in the Payables Department and shared her story of living with Moebius Syndrome. Lisa assisted in a Special Education classroom while in high school and saw how far the students in the classroom improved in her time there and wanted to continue in the field of Special Ed. Lisa enrolled at the University of North Dakota and was majoring in Special Education until the program was changed and she switched to a Psychology major. She met her husband, Matt her first year of college and ended up moving to Mankato for Matt to attend graduate school. Once in Mankato, Lisa did some research and decided she wanted to work for MRCI, because her goal was still to help people succeed. Lisa stated she wasn’t diagnosed with Moebius Syndrome until the age of four and watched her parents deal with the frustration about the lack of information on her syndrome. Understanding frustration has made her more mindful to listen completely and to do her best to help the families we work with, Lisa stated. Lisa was never treated differently by her three older brothers. Lisa said she was hesitant to call what she had a disability because at home, it wasn’t. Moebius Syndrome is a nonprogressive craniofacial/neurological disorder that manifests itself primarily in facial paralysis. Lisa said that through support from Moebius Syndrome Supports she has learned to embrace her disability. Many people have told her not mention her disability during an interview but she said that once she took hold of her disability and Connie, Lisa, Paul & Ana. Payables Dept. Upcoming Events Timberwolves MRCI Game Night The partnership between MRCI and the MN Timberwolves and Lynx’s continues into 2017. We are excited to be able to offer game tickets again this year. Monday, March 13th, the Minnesota Timberwolves will play the Washington Wizards at 7:00pm. If you are a fan and would like to be considered for free tickets then send owned it, it was like an “aha” moment for her. She once viewed it as a weakness that you are constantly trying to express yourself without facial expressions but doesn’t view it that way anymore. Lisa’s coworkers find her delightful and just love her infectious laugh. Partners in Progress Update The first Partners in Progress meeting was hosted on Monday, January 30th in the Southeastern Counties by MRCI-CDS. Those in attendance were able to have questions answered and met some CDS team members face to face for the first time. The MRCI-CDS team wanted to reach out to offer participates and stake- holders worked with in the region an opportunity to provide input on services and assist as needed with forms. Jen Drganc, CDS Vice President did an informal, brief presentation on changes coming within Self Directed Programs in MN.
