St. Anastasia Catholic Church
Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...
Dear Parishioners,
As you know from last Sunday, Archbishop Gomez has appointed Fr. Leszek
Semik as Administrator of St. Anastasia Church, effective July 1st, 2016.
Fr. Semik is a native of Poland. He did his Theological studies in Poland, and was ordained
for the Diocese of Krakow in 1994. He served in Poland for 11 years, and has been in the
United States for approximately 11 years.
Presently, he is the Associate Pastor at St. Lawrence Martyr in Redondo Beach. Fr. Semik
has a gracious and warm personality, and he exudes much enthusiasm.
I know St. Anastasia Parish will give him a warm welcome on the July 2/3rd weekend,
when he celebrates Mass and begins his leadership here at St. Anastasia. We, as a Parish,
thank Archbishop Gomez for assigning Fr. Leszek Semik as our Administrator.

This Week: Saturday, April 16th / Sunday, April 17th
Fourth Sunday of Easter
Reflections on Today’s Readings:
FOCUS: I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. Jesus Christ promises eternal
life to all who follow Him. We follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd, by recognizing His voice in Scripture and in
the teachings of the Church, by listening to Him speaking to our hearts in prayer, and by practicing His teachings in our daily lives. When the situation is appropriate, we share our faith with others.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading tells of Paul and Barnabas shifting their focus to
preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles. The second reading offers a prophetic vision of a multitude of
believers of every nation, race, people and tongue praising the Lamb of God in heaven. In the Gospel,
Jesus promises eternal life to all who believe in Him and walk in His way of love.

their travels, spreading the faith and unifying the
churches (Acts 14:21-27).

and my God (Psalm 145).
Second Reading — John’s vision of God
dwelling with the human race (Revelation

April 17th, 2016 - Fourth Sunday of Easter: Paul and
Barnabas encountered both violent rejection and joyful
acceptance of the message that they preached. We, too,
may meet with mixed reactions when we use our gifts
in the service of God. But, the Gospel assures us, the
reward for those who follow faithfully is eternal life.
Ministry equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

families. To honor his dedicated service the Parish has
established a scholarship fund. This fund will provide
Our Pastor the ability to help families in financial
distress access Catholic education at St. Anastasia
Catholic School. Please consider giving to this
Memorial fund to benefit the children of St. Anastasia.

Fact of Life
Forcing Catholic Hospitals to Perform Abortions?
From Lifesitenews.com
A Michigan judge has thrown out the ACLU’s lawsuit attempting to force a nationwide chain of Catholic
hospitals to perform abortions. The ACLU filed suit against Trinity Health Corporation, which operates 86
health care facilities in 21 states nationwide.
The court ruled that the ACLU lacked standing to bring the case, dismissing its claims as “dubious” and
“speculative.”
“No American should be forced to commit an abortion – least of all faith-based medical workers who went
into the profession to follow their faith and save lives, not take them.” said ADF Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot.
“Federal law directly prohibits the government from engaging in any such coercion.”

Holy Family # 1 - April, TBD
Holy Family # 2 - April, Aaron Family
My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
John 10: 27
Liam and his family love taking their dog Buster for a walk
in the woods. But if Buster goes too far or is in danger, Liam
calls and Buster comes running. Buster knows Liam’s voice.
He trusts his master and obeys his commands. Just as Liam
cares for his dog, and a shepherd protects his sheep, Jesus
watches over us. He calls to us within our hearts if we are in
danger of making bad choices. Reading the Bible, praying
and going to Mass are ways we can learn to hear Jesus’
voice better, and follow Him more closely too.
Jesus, help me hear your voice and follow it today.
