What to Do
What You Need
• Read the base words in the first column of the chart. Then look
at the examples of suffixes. Which suffixes form new words when
combined with each base word?
• dry‐erase marker
• dictionary
• Complete the chart by writing the related words formed with
suffixes for each base word. Hint: More than one suffix may
be combined with the same base word to form a new word
(e.g., hopelessly).
• Put a star beside each new word that required a change in the spelling
of the base word when you added the suffix.
