Sometimes, you may not even see them at all, but you know you’re bruised because it hurts. That’s why it’s important to always tell a grown-up and apply ice as soon as you get hurt. But with a bruise, there is no cut, so the blood has no place to go. It gets stuck under your skin. As your skin swells up, it can turn lumpy, puff y and blue. An eye bruise is called a black eye. When you see someone with a black fingernail, that’s a fingernail bruise. The worst kind of bruise is a brain bruise. They happen when you bang your head very, very, very hard. The good news is, these sorts of bruises don’t happen very of ten. Still, to protect yourself, make sure you always wear a helmet when riding your bicycle. What should you do if you get a bleed, bruise or any kind of hurt? The answer is easy. As soon as you get hurt, stop what you are doing and tell a grown-up. If you’re not at home, be sure to tell your Mom or Dad as soon as you see them. You should also make sure to put ice on the spot you hurt right away. Ice is important because it helps stop the bleeding. And if you get a cut? The answer is the same. But he forgot to wear something very important. Do you know what my Dad forgot? Did you guess HELMET? Great! Everyone should wear a helmet when riding a bike. Even grown-ups!
