Matthew 21:1-11
1Now
when they drew near to Jerusalem and
came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then
Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into
the village in front of you, and immediately you
will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie
them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says
anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs
them,’ and he will send them at once.”
4 This
took place to fulfill what was spoken
by the prophet, saying,
5 “Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”
6 The
disciples went and did as Jesus had
directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and
the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat
on them. 8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks
on the road, and others cut branches from the
trees and spread them on the road. 9 And the
crowds that went before him and that followed
him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of
David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of
the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
10 And
when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city
was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the
crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from
Nazareth of Galilee.”

greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey

Hosanna:
“Save Now”
“Save Us”
“Bring Us Salvation”
Matthew 20:26-27
26 It
shall not be so among you. But whoever
would be great among you must be your
servant,27 and whoever would be first among you
must be your slave,28 even as the Son of Man
came not to be served but to serve, and to give
his life as a ransom for many.”
Luke 18:31-33
1 And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we
are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is
written about the Son of Man by the prophets
will be accomplished. 32 For he will be delivered
over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and
shamefully treated and spit upon. 33 And after
flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third
day he will rise.”

A Time of Personal Reflection
i. If Jesus were to come into our sanctuary this
morning and walk down the middle aisle
towards the front. After the initial shock of His
presence, what would be the first thing on
your mind to do?
ii. What do you expect from following Jesus
the Triumphant King?
iii. What does Jesus the Triumphant King
expect from you as his disciple?
To not walk in darkness (John 8:12)
To take up the cross (Matt 16:24-26)
To obey His commandments (John 14:15)
To trust Him (Prov. 3:5-6)
To seek first His kingdom (Matt 6:33)
To love the Lord…and to love others (Matt 22:37-38)
To make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19-20)
…
iv. Who is Jesus the Triumphant King to you?
