He will focus on how he delved into the tobacco planting, slave-holding, and Jim Crow history of Prince George's County when writing his novel Well Considered. June 12 June2016 I Think, Therefore I am, I Think Cindy Terlazzo This sermon explores the liberating potential contained within our thoughts by exploring questions like: Do our thoughts matter? If so, what are the implications of what we think in our lives and what we can do about the estimated 50–70 thousand thoughts that fill our heads each day? We try to practice them, we make mistakes, we try again. We’ll discuss the practical implications of a covenant relationship in general and our shared covenant as UU’s in particular. We will also discuss how the small group ministry model is a laboratory for practicing our covenants. July 3 Letting Go Sid Soderholm Introduction to monthly service themes, especially the wide range encompassed by “Letting Go.” Discuss the many ways we sometimes need to let go, the transition that needs to happen and the opportunity to grow and embrace the new. JUNE ODYSSEY PAGE 2 Goodloe Annual Meeting Summary A quorum was present. There were two proxy votes. The membership of Goodloe unanimously accepted the partnership with Annapolis in which we gain the ¼ time consulting ministry of Rev. Christina Leone Tracy for one year. The membership unanimously elected the following people to the board or nomination committee. Board ♦ Vice President: Lorraine Webb ♦ Financial Officer: Sid Soderholm (second term) ♦ Trustee: Dick Wobus (second term) Nomination Committee ♦ Roxie Wickline ♦ Sally Raymond ♦ Pete Boudriault Open Positions: The following position are open. Please talk to members of the board if you are interested in either of these positions: Board Trustee ♦ Committee on Ministerial Relations ♦ UU Partnership in Prince George's County. Davies Memorial and Paint Branch have each expressed interest to pursuing small group ministry county wide. Similarly, there are congregations are beginning to visit each other's social justice activities. The congregation discussed the budget for 2016-17. The board discussed two ways of raising funds for our Great Loves. Discussions from the floor provided two additional funding alternatives. The board announced the experiment of moving to Theme Based Ministry in the months of July and August. It is anticipated we will get deeper grounding in UU principles and sources of faith. We will have four different styles of service, with the same traditions (chalice lighting, offertory, joys and concerns, benediction). President’s Good News Goodloe Memorial is entering into a partnership agreement to get Rev Christina Leone Tracy as a quarter time minister from September 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. The congregation voted unanimously for approval. Goodloe Memorial is moving to Theme-Based Ministry in July and August. The theme for July is “Letting Go.” The theme for August is Awakening. We will experiment with different worship formats. For more details, see article on theme based ministry. I am deeply grateful for active participation of Goodloe congregation. We did a lot of Soul searching to develop our Great Loves and revive our sense of identity. We went through a number of long workshops and going deeper sessions. Having plowed through the anxiety and uncertainty together, we now have an exciting year ahead. I am deeply grateful for the board members (Pete, Jackie, Sid, Dick W) during these difficult times. They learned about different options and debated different approaches. They had to overcome personal anxieties in order to discuss what is best for Goodloe. They attended numerous sessions with the Congregation to offer their perspectives. Without their devotion, we would not have been able to pull this all together. A special mention for Pete who is stepping down from the board, and led a worship on Bridging the Divisions in our life. The board members also took extra special efforts to meet with Annapolis, Davies Memorial and Paint Branch to discuss partnership issues.
