About JDRF
The mission of JDRF (formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is to find a cure for type 1
diabetes and its complications through the support of research. JDRF funds more diabetes research than any
other non-governmental health agency in the world. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly
support our mission.
About the Walk to Cure Diabetes
The Walk to Cure Diabetes is JDRF’s largest national fundraising event and the sixth largest peer-to-peer
fundraising event in the United States. The Walk to Cure Diabetes takes place in more than 200 locations in
the United States and around the world. This fun, family friendly fundraising event hosts walk teams large and
small in support of people living with type 1 diabetes.
Since 1992, the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes has raised more than $1 billion for research toward removing the
burden of T1D. Funds are raised by individual and team walkers obtaining donations from family, friends, coworkers and neighbors. Funds are also raise through corporate sponsorship, corporate walk teams and the
sale of the JDRF paper sneaker at retail outlets. With the help of our dedicated partners and friends we will
continue growing our Walk, bringing us one step closer to the cure.
About the Sneaker Program
Sneaker sales are one way for retail stores to build excitement about the Walk to Cure Diabetes in their
community while raising critical research dollars that can be credited to their team’s Walk total. Past national
sneaker sellers have included Advance Auto Parts, Walgreens and Marshalls, just to name a few.
Store clerks ask customers at point-of-purchase to buy a paper sneaker to help the store support JDRF. The
customer signs his/her name on the sneaker and then the sneakers are displayed throughout the store. The
program usually runs four weeks. To jump-start the program, display a sneaker for every store employee.

JDRF Sneaker Sales Campaign
JDRF is dedicated to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
We fund more diabetes research than any other non-governmental health agency in the world. With the help
of our Sneaker Sales Campaigns, national and corporate partners can easily help to raise awareness and
donations for continuing research.
Steps to selling JDRF Sneakers
STEP 1 -- Ask the customer if they would like to purchase a paper sneaker to help your company support JDRF
in the search for a cure for diabetes.
STEP 2 -- Sneakers have a bar code. Scan them up at the register. You can sell all sneakers for one price. Or
you can sell them in incremental dollar amounts – for example, $1 for blue shoe, $2 for red shoe, $5 for yellow
shoe and $10 for green shoe.
STEP 3 -- Have the customer write his/her name on the sneaker.
STEP 4 -- Give the signed sneaker to a supervisor following your shift.
STEP 5 -- The signed sneaker will be displayed throughout the store.
Why Sell Sneakers For A Cure?
A child or adult with type 1 diabetes has to take insulin injections one to four times per day because he or she
does not produce insulin. Insulin converts food into energy. An individual with type 1 diabetes must also test
his/her blood sugar levels four to six times a day with a finger-prick to draw blood. Every bite of food has to be
weighed and measured for sugar content, carbohydrates, protein and fat. Every minute of exercise has to be
estimated against his/her blood sugar levels. But even with careful management diabetes can still cause
complications such as blindness, amputation, kidney failure, heart attack and stroke.
JDRF raises money to fund research for a cure for this devastating and costly disease. In the US, more than
15,000 children and another 15,000 adults are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year. Thanks to the
generosity of individuals, corporate and community partners, JDRF currently has invested $450 million in
research projects in 17 countries. By asking customers to donate to help find a cure, you are doing your part to
help. Thank you for your support!
