We received 102
replies to the
survey and quite a
lot of written
feedback.
The results to the
first question were 76 Yes to 21 No; overwhelming in favor of
staying with Plenty Ranges. In response to the second question
60 responses indicated that they would not be prepared to drive
to a venue further away, while 44 said they would.
Based on this feedback, the community would prefer to
continue with the current venue, Plenty Ranges even with its
seating limitations and would not be prepared to drive to a
venue at some distance from the school.
Over the years we have explored alternative venues, especially
those with greater seating capacity, such as Hamer Hall (far too
expensive), Dallas Brooks Hall (has recently been sold for
apartments to be built on the site), the Palais Theatre in St. Kilda
(too far from the school according to your feedback), LaTrobe
University and the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre
(seating capacity similar to Plenty Ranges), the National Theatre
in St. Kilda (too far) and the Karralyka Theatre in Ringwood
(seating capacity 430). We even phoned Loyola College last
week after hearing that they are building a new performing arts
space. Unfortunately, their seating capacity will be 500.
In the years early of Plenty Parklands, we held our concerts at
the Heidelberg Town Hall with the children in the audience when they weren’t performing. The Centre has a capacity
of approximately 700, but flat, not tiered seating and not enough dressing rooms. At that time we received feedback
from parents that they preferred tiered seating and so we changed the venue to Plenty Ranges. In 2006, School
Council once again asked for community feedback, which was to stay at Plenty Ranges. An added complication to
the concert is that we require a lot of back stage space to be used as dressing rooms. Except for the limitations of
seating, Plenty Ranges enables us to utilise all their back stage spaces to accommodate our student population. We
know that we cannot please everyone (as one parent commented), but for the foreseeable future, we will have to stick
with our current venue with two tickets for the majority of our families.
We live in hope that Whittlesea Council will get a move along with building a new theatre with a seating capacity of at
least 1,200. As rate payers, perhaps you can find the time to write to them about this.

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE CONT...
Year 2 day camp was a great success with much laughter and
excitement. As the kids arrived back at school that afternoon there we
lots of smiles, but also some big yawns; camp is a big experience.
Thank you so much to our staff, teacher and education support staff,
and parent helpers who put in a long day, from about 8:00 am to 6:00
pm to ensure the kids had a very positive first camp experience.
Congratulations to our year 2’s who lived by the values all day.
Congratulations also to our Girls’ Volleyball team who played in the
Divisional finals Friday before last. They did a great job to reach that
level of competition and Mr Brett Cobb-Clark (Mr CC) paid tribute to
their commitment to personal achievement and their role modelling of
the values.
Last Tuesday was a special day for a long serving and loved PPPS
community member, Mrs Jenny Hornidge. Many will know Jenny as the English coordinator before Leanne Weston or
the Program for Students with Disabilities coordinator before Jo Creed. Some who have much older children will also
remember Jenny as a class teacher at Bundoora Primary School and here at PPPS. After many years of truly
dedicated commitment to kids and teaching Jenny has now officially retired. In her honor we sang original songs,
read original poetry and made original speeches. Also in her honor we laughed a lot as that was how Jenny worked;
with professionalism and laughter. On behalf of all the lucky kids, parents and staff who have known Jenny, we wish
her a wonderful retirement, unless we can entice her back here to volunteer her expertise once more.
We hope that you experience a Fair Go for All this week and thank you for your input and support for PPPS.
