Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy this special time!
You’re on your way …
Wishing the Tongan trip tamariki and whanau fun, happiness and a
safe trip when they depart to Tonga next week. How proud we are
of you all and what you have achieved over the past two years. Well
done and thanks to Koka Rose and the team. You are all so
deserving of 7 days in the warm Tongan sun! [!2]

Positive Behaviour for learning ...Kia Tu Rangatira
Next Monday, we celebrate our GOLD Zone students with the Kia Tu
Rangatira (Be a Leader) awards. This awards presentation is timely
as it is also the Sir Peter Blake Leadership week next week. 15
students will be presented with these prestigious awards for their
commitment to learning, modeling the school vision and living the
school values. We also recognise one awesome parent who has
been nominated by staff. #kiaturangatira
Have you got spots? Chicken pox is here.
Unfortunately we have had 3 cases of chicken pox over the past
week at school. The Ministry of Health Guidelines are that kids
infected stay away from school for 1 week from the appearance of the
rash till all blisters have dried. Please notify us if you suspect your
child has Chicken pox.
Who has 100% attendance?
Its Mystery trip time next week where we celebrate with those
students who have achieved 100% attendance for term 2. 76
students are working towards that goal of 100% attendance. Mystery
trip tickets will be distributed to students on Monday and they head off
on their trip next Tuesday.
Student leaders updates
Its not an easy job to be a leader. This term, the student leaders have
been gathering feedback in classrooms about Mai time, learning
about the pressures of public speaking and what makes a good
speaker and more recently thinking about how they can make a
difference in our community. Last week, the student leaders went for
a walk to the Kaiti Mall. They were dismayed at the levels of rubbish
on the ground everywhere. Koka Mandy is now leaving this issue
with the student leaders for them to resolve. #watch this space.
Fun and Team Work on the Sports Field
Congratulations to the students who are involved in sports teams and
representing our teams with pride. The way in which our students
show sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork is be to commended.
Well done to the Rugby teams who recently represented the school at
the inter school Rugby day. For the first time this year, the school
entered a girls rugby team. The team did very well for their first time
playing rugby and I hear that they have received some challenges
from other schools for games in term 3.
The Titirangi Project
Kaiti School is the first school in Gisborne to run the Motukorua
transition program for 5 year olds. At Kaiti we call it the Titirangi
Project. Our Assistant Principal Koka Moana meets with all of the 5
year old student’s parents throughout the first year of school.
Information about your child and what they know in their learning is
shared along with ideas and resources to help parents help their kids with reading, writing and maths.
The results so far this year have been phenomenal. Parents do want to know what they can do to better
to support their tamariki and we have had positive feedback from whanau. Keep up the good mahi.
Ākina te reo - Behind you all the way!
Its Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori next week. The theme for this year
is ākina to reo – behind you all the way which is about using te
reo Māori to support people, to inspire and to cheer on. Here’s
some phrases to use next week along with all the other reo
that you use with your tamariki.
Kia kaha e hoa! Lets go team! Kei reira! Right on, thats the one! Karawhiua! Give it heaps! Ka wani kē! Awesome, Fabulous!
Ka pai hoki koe! Good on you!
Writing is for Reading
Emily Goldsmith (6 years) writes about the Sun!
The Sun is a star! Eight Planets go around the Sun. Mercury is
the hottest planet. The Sun is the hottest star. Neptune is the
coldest planet. The Sun is the biggest star. The Sun is made of
hydrogen gas and that makes it hot.
Every child’s writing book was sampled last Friday and it was a pleasure to read the quality
writing being produced by our up and coming authors. Koka Rose also went out to classes to
ask our budding authors what they have learnt to do in writing this term. Here is their student
voice: I can write a title for my story. I can make my writing easy to read. I can use my spelling words in
my story, I can read my writing to a friend, I can fix up some mistakes, I can use adjectives and verbs.
Kia pai ou koutou ako hui! Billie-Jean Potaka Ayton Principal
