PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE OPERATION
WARNING
Do not use the unit outdoors. Current leakage or electric shock may result if the unit is exposed to
rain water.
Only qualified engineers or service personnel should install the unit.

turning over. If the floor is not strong enough or the installation site is not adequate, this may result

Never install the unit in a flammable or volatile location. This may cause explosion or fire.

Always ground (earth) the unit to prevent electric shock. If the power supply outlet is not
grounded, it will be necessary to install a ground by qualified engineers.
Never ground the unit through a gas pipe, water main, telephone line or lightning rod. Such
grounding may cause electric shock in the case of an incomplete circuit.
Connect the unit to a power source as indicated on the rating label attached to the unit. Use
of any other voltage or frequency other than that on the rating label may cause fire or electric shock.
Do not insert metal objects such as a pin or a wire into any vent, gap or any outlet on the unit.
This may cause electric shock or injury by accidental contact with moving parts.
Use this unit in safe area when treating the poison, harmful or radiate articles.

Improper use
Turn off the power switch (if provided) and disconnect the power supply to the unit prior to
any repair or maintenance of the unit in order to prevent electric shock or injury.
Do not touch any electrical parts (such as power supply plug) or operate switches with a wet

WARNING
Ensure you do not inhale or consume medication or aerosols from around the unit at the time of
maintenance. These may be harmful to your health.
Never splash water directly onto the unit as this may cause electric shock or short circuit.
Never put containers with liquid on the unit as this may cause electric shock or short circuit when
the liquid is spilled.
Never bind, process, or step on the power supply cord, or never damage or break the power
supply plug. A broken supply cord or plug may cause fire or electric shock.
Do not use the supply cord if its plug is loose.
Such supply cord may cause fire or electric shock.
Never disassemble, repair, or modify the unit yourself. Any such work carried out by an
unauthorized person may result in fire, or electric shock or injury due to a malfunction.
Disconnect the power supply plug if there is something wrong with the unit.

This equipment is designed to be safe at least under the following conditions (based on the IEC
61010-1):
■ Indoor use;
■ Altitude up to 2000 m;
■ Ambient temperature 5 oC to 40 oC
■ Maximum relative humidity 80 % for temperature up to 31 oC decreasing linearly to 50 % relative
humidity at 40 oC;
■ Mains supply voltage fluctuations not to exceed ±10 % of the nominal voltage;
■ Other supply voltage fluctuations as stated by the manufacturer;
■ Transient overvoltages according to Installation Categories (Overvoltage Categories) II; For mains
supply the minimum and normal category is II;
■ Pollution degree 2 in accordance with IEC 60664.

1. Display of revolution speed and time
In operation, this indicator shows the revolution speed or time. (In timer running, the indicator shows
expiration time. In continuous running, it shows integrated time up to 99.9 hours.*1) In setting mode,
the indicator shows setting value of a revolution speed or time. The display can change over by
pressing select key. And this indicator also shows the error code when detects abnormal by
self-diagnosis function.
2. RPM lamp (RPM): This lamp lights when the display shows the revolution speeds, and flashes
during the revolution speed setting mode.
3. TIME lamp (TIME): This lamp lights when the display shows the remaining time or elapsed time, and
flashes during setting mode of time.
4. Auto limit lamp (AUTO LIMIT): This lamp lights when the auto limit function is on, and flashes when
the auto limit function is activated. Details of auto limit function should be referred to page 18.
5. Start/Stop key (START/STOP): Pressing this key gets the shaker started. Pressing this key again
stops the shaker. To operate with auto limit function off, press this key for 3 seconds.

*1. The time display is indicated 0.1 hour (6 minutes) in more than 6 minutes indication and by a second

INSTALLATION SITE
To operate this unit properly and to obtain maximum performance, install the unit in a location with the
following conditions:
■ Sturdy and level floor
Always install the unit on a sturdy and level floor. The uneven floor or tilted installation may cause
failure or injury. Install the unit in stable condition to avoid the vibration or noise. Unstable condition
may cause vibration or noise.
WARNING
Install the unit on a sturdy floor. If the floor is not strong enough or the installation site is not
adequate, this may result in injury from the unit falling or tipping over.
Select a level and sturdy floor for installation. This precaution will prevent the unit from tipping.
Improper installation may result in water spillage or injury from the unit tipping over.
■ Low humidity
Install the unit in the ambient of 80 %R.H. or less humidity.

START-UP OF UNIT
Starting trial operation or operation of this shaker, shall be followed by the next procedure.
1. Remove the packaging materials and tapes.
Note:
Remove the cable tie banding the power supply cord. Prolonged banding may cause the corrosion of
the cord coating.
2. If the product is dirty, clean it with a diluted neutral dishwashing detergent. (Undiluted detergent can
damage the plastic components. For the dilution, refer to the instruction of the detergent.) After the
cleaning with the diluted detergent, always wipe it off with a wet cloth. Then wipe off it with a dry cloth.
3. Plug the power supply cord into the port on the left of the rear side of the shaker.
4. Set up the unit correctly according to “INSTALLATION SITE” of page 9.
FIXING SAMPLES ONTO PLATFORM
●Fix the platform to top plate
Set a platform along with two stopping holes in rear of the top plate, and secure the platform by the two
fixing screws.
●Fix an Erlenmeyer flask to platform
Screw the optional clamp to the platform and set an Erlenmeyer flask in it. (Refer to page 12 and 13)
Do not get the Erlenmeyer flask out of platform widely. In case of setting in an incubator, there is the
possibility of touching the wall inside.
CAUTION
Fix a clamp to the platform securely. Improper fixing is dangerous. To prevent unbalance, set an
Erlenmeyer flask symmetrically at the center of the platform, and do not get the flasks out of platform
widely.
Reduce the revolution speed when the total weight of flasks exceed the allowable limit. (To
prevent abnormal vibration.)

●Fix a selected clamp to the platform firmly with M4 screw (MIR-38PFT) or M5 screw (MIR-38PFN) <A
flask of 50 ml-300 ml is fixed by one screw and that of 500 ml-2000 ml is fixed by four screws>. Set the
clamp symmetrically with respect to the center point of platform. (Refer to page 12 and 13)
●The spring of clamp may lose holding power after long-term usage. Replace the spring of clamp as
necessary.
●About optional components, contact a qualified service personnel.
●Do not use other competitor’s pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet to fix a clamp.

location where MIR-S100 is set on, the revolution speed shown in the graph is not always attainable.

CAUTION FOR CULTURE
● Be careful of the rotation part (platform).
Be careful not to catch a finger between body and platform in operation. Do not insert metal objects
such as a pin or a wire into gap between platform and top plate. This may cause electric shock or injury
by accidental contact with moving parts.
● Use the power supply cord enclosed with the unit.
Use of an inferior power supply cord may cause electric shock or fire.
● Be careful of frostbite when operating in low temperature.
Do not touch the body and platform with a wet hand when the product is used in 0 oC ambient. This may
cause frostbite.

OPERATION OF CONTROL PANEL
The table below shows the basic procedure for setting the control panel. The example in the table is
based on the assumption that the revolution speed is 200 rpm and the culture time is 1 hour.
Note: The unit is set at the factory that the revolution speed is 50 rpm and culture time is continuous
running (00.0).

CAUTION
Handle the reagents and samples used to react with care. In case of accidental entry into the eyes or
ingestion, this may be harmful to health. In terms of toxicity of regents, inquire at a regent manufacturer.
Handle the samples and reaction products. Contamination between samples may cause unexpected
harmful products.
CAUTION
Do not get up the body in operation. This may cause injury by catching a finger between the body and
platform.

SETTING THE ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION
The table below shows the basic procedure for setting a rotational acceleration speed at the start up. The
acceleration speeds has 3 speeds (1, 2, 3). Speed 3 is the fastest.
Note: The unit is set at the factory that the rotational acceleration is 2.

AUTO LIMIT FUNCTION
Auto limit function is ON after power-ON, and it activates when it detects abnormal vibration during
shaker running. When the auto limit function is activated, the buzzer sounds auto limit lamp flashes and
RPM is reduced 20 rpm. If the abnormal vibration still continues, RPM is reduced 20 rpm again with
buzzerand lamp. In the case of 50 rpm, the shaker stops running because the speed cannot be reduced
anymore. The flashing of auto limit lamp continues after the shaker stopping. The flashing stops when
new rotational speed is set or the running again.
When auto limit function is not used, press a start/stop key (START/STOP) for 3 seconds, and release
start/stop key (STRAT/STOP) after checking the auto limit lamp is turn off. The shaker starts operating
without auto limit function. (Refer to *1-3 below)
CAUTION
In the case of not using auto limit function, be careful of abnormal vibration.

by power failure. The timer is not counted during power failure and the count is resumed after power

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
Cleaning
Perform the following procedure to clean the MIR-S100 when use it for the first time or contaminate under
the platform.
●Clean removing platform with a diluted neutral dishing detergent with distilled water.
●Wipe the interior parts and inside platform with alcohol for sterilization and then wipe off with a dry
gauze so as not to remain alcohol for the sterilization.
●Do not use a solution of disodium chlorate or other halogen-based solution because this may cause
rust.
●In case of heavy dirt, consult sales representative or agents.
Removal of platform
1. Turn off the power switch and unplug.

Replacement of consumable
The belt and bearings used in MIR-S100 are consumable parts. MIR-S100 has a maintenance notice
function.
When “CH1” is indicated in the display after power ON, it recommends replacement of those parts. For
the replacement, consult sales representative or agents.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If the unit malfunctions, check out the following before calling for service.
Malfunction
The shaker does not
operate at all.
Check/Remedy
• The shaker is not plugged correctly into a power outlet.
• The circuit breaker at the power source is active or a power failure
has occurred.
• The power supply cord is not connected to the port on the rear of the
shaker.
The key operation is
disabled.
• The key lock function is set in ON mode. (Refer to page 17)
Under the setting mode.
The alarm function
operates.
• The shaker is not running within a correct temperature range.
• The relation between number of flasks and shaker speeds is not
correct. (Refer to page 14)
Shaker speed goes down
to lower than the set value.
The shaker stops during
operation.
“CH2” flashes in display

(The auto limit function operates continuously in the case of conditions
below.)
• The setting table is microvibrating by being installed in the product
with a compressor etc.
• The installation site is not stable or leveled.
• Flask is not fixed securely.
• Location of clamp is not right.
• Amount of culture medium is not right.
• The timer function is set to ON mode.
• The sample weight on platform is too much. The allowable load
weight is 5 kg.

above table, contact our sales representative or agent.

COMBINATION OF MIR-S100
Combination of MIR-S100 with cooled incubator, and versatile environmental test chamber.
● Cooled incubator: MIR-153, MIR-253, MIR-553
● Versatile environmental test chamber : MLR-350, MLR-351 (Can not be used in MLR-350(H),
MLR-351(H))
*It is recommended to install MIR-S100 on the lower shelf in the incubator to prevent abnormal vibration.
Caution
・Select sturdy floor when combine MIR-S100 with our incubators and set the incubator in place with
leveling foot.
In the case of combining MIR-S100 with cooled incubator or versatile environmental test chamber, use
fixing kit MIR-15FP provided as optional component.
Fixing procedure of MIR-15FP to cooled incubator
1. Remove a shelf of incubator to be set the MIR-S100. (The lower shelf is recommended)
2. Fix the plate to the shelf with 6 screws, by using two plate fixing supports. (See figure below)
3. Replace the shelf with plate into the incubator. Fix the shelf to incubator by using the shelf fixing metal
right, left, and shelf fixing support. (See figure below)
4. Remove the cap on the access port of the incubator and pass the power code of MIR-S100 through
the port.
5. Put the cap enclosed with the kit on the access port.
6. Connect the power cord into MIR-S100, and set MIR-S100 on the plate.
