Heavy rains lashed (घोर न दा करना) the national capital on Saturday, bringing the mercury
down even as the showers led to waterlogging and traffic jams in several parts of the city.
The Safdarjung observatory (बे यशाला), the reading of which is considered the official figure
for the city, recorded 43.4 mm rainfall till 8.30 a.m. while weather stations at Lodhi Road,
Palam, Ridge (चोट ) and Ayanagar received 41.6mm, 41.6mm, 48mm and 20.9 mm rainfall
respectively in the same period.
Between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Palam, Ridge and Ayanagar stations
recorded 12mm, 12.5mm, 4mm,7.4mm and 9.1mm rainfall, a MeT Department official said.
Several parts of the capital city reeled (डगमगाना) under severe traffic congestion (संकुलन) and
residents and commuters ( नय मत आने जाने वाला) faced a tough time as the sections of
flyovers, underpasses and low-lying localities, such as Sangam Vihar, were flooded.
Traffic was thrown out of gear near AIIMS, IIT-Delhi, Ashram-DND flyway, Moolchand
underpass, Jasola, Badarpur, Panchsheel, Yusuf Sarai, Adhchini, South Extension and on several
stretches of the circumferential Ring Road.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 29.1 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season’s
average while the minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degrees, three notches below the normal.
The humidity (गीलापन) level oscillated (कॉपना) between 84 and 100 per cent. The weatherman
has predicted (भ व यवाणी करना) thunderstorm accompanied (सहगत) by rain for Sunday.
