What is new on B02, B04, B10 (textiles) and ISO 4892 (plastics)
• B10 also offers several new accelerated weathering methods. It might
replace B04?
•
Higher temperatures and increased amount of UV-radiation allow higher
accelleration level
•B02, B04, B10 and ISO 4892 are now performance-based standards
• Hardware-based standards exclude new techniques/innovation
• Hardware-based standards are ineffective and not flexible for update
• Performance-based standards are open for innovation
• Performance-based standards strictly define requirements, but do not
describe a specific machine or technique

The modern textile and plastics test methods are
performance-based and thus, now open to flat bed testing
devices:
• After 60 years it is not necessary to use a rotating rack device for textile light
fastness and weathering testing.
• Beside existing rotating rack devices the standards are open for flat bed devices.
• The use of rotating rack devices and flat bed devices is described seperately. All
test parameters are the same. Additionally, strong performance parameters for the
test equipment are included.
This means more choices for users and more
freedom to innovate!

• Use the correct filter system
• Window / Daylight filter are different
• Do not mix filter types
• Do not use outdated equipment
• Outdated tester / filter system
• Xenon lamps undergo ageing
• Lamp spectrum changes during
service life
• Lamps are cheap consumables
• Replace lamps regulary

modern testing
• Tomorrow´s markets require fast, accurate and reliable testing
- worldwide•Xenon and UV do not compete but supplement. A QUV is the
best and most economical way for UV-ageing tests
•Most of the new standards are open to both, rotating rack
devices and flat bed devices.
• Flat bed testing devices offers several advantages, e.g. cost
efficiency and testing of 3D samples.
• Modern standards, e.g. B02, B04,B10 or ISO 4892 cover a large
spectrum of requirements for indoor and outdoor materials.
• proper test results with proper test devices only: modern Stateof-the-art testers are a must. Do not use outdated equipment
• Modern testers still need regular maintenance & user hands-on
• The User-interface must be user-friendy. Otherwise it will not be
done.
