Home Away From Home for 20 Years: Please mark your calendars for the 20th anniversary of Saint Luke’s Children’s Center. On Thursday, August 27th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm we will be having a celebration of 20 years of ministry to children and their families. There are some ways you can help. First – come join the fun. Second – if you have pictures of the Children’s Center please bring them in. If they are digital send them to Jessica at [email protected]. If they need to be scanned please bring them and put them in the basket on Deaconess Kathy’s desk (be sure and put your name on the back). The due date is June 30th. Last week’s flowers were given by the Strauss family in honor of Josh and Justin’s birthdays and by Kathy Toeppen in memory of Leland Luchsinger. All are invited to our annual trip to Elitch’s on Monday, June 15th from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm. Youth that are middle school or older may attend without a parent. The cost is $28.00 per person and covers your ticket but make sure you bring money for lunch and drinks. Please register no later than June 7th by returning a registration form and payment to Lara or the church office. There will be a tour, attractions, Chick-fil-A lunch and a Silent Auction. You will be able to explore a cave, pan for gems, learn the difference between a stalactite and a stalagmite in the geology lab, and try out the challenging ropes course. Cost is $25 per person. Lunches for Learning: “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in Rural Honduras” – one of our partner ministries: * Lunches for Learning is an independent charitable organization which works with governmental agencies, faith based organizations, corporations and individual sponsors. Its only agenda is to feed the children and keep them in school! * Lunches for Learning does not give handouts. Participation requires a commitment from the local Hounduran community. Parents must pledge to support the program by preparing and serving the lunches provided by Lunches for Learning. *Lunches for Learning is entirely staffed by volunteers in the U.S. *The cost for 1 child for the school year is $150; for 10 children - $1,500. The sponsorship for small, medium and large schools and other programs are also available.
