Discipline God`s Way: But do you suppose this, O

Discipline God’s Way:
But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same
yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and
tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? Romans 2:3-4
Do not hold back discipline from the child, although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. You shall strike
him with the rod and rescue his soul from Sheol. Proverbs 23:13-14
Obedience and Disobedience:
1. Lay down the rules. Romans 4:15 “but where there is no law, there also is no violation.”
2. Know who is in control, you or your child?
3. God commands children to obey. Partial obedience is disobedience.
4. Obedience is expected the first time. Delayed obedience is disobedience.
5. Children are expected to obey joyfully. Anything short of joyful obedience is disobedience.
*Obedience = Blessings. Disobedience = Curses. Deut. 28.
Remember:


The “rod” is a rescue mission.
The “rod” is not a belt, paddle, etc.
The “rod” is safe when done in love. Not out of anger, frustration or vengeance.
Discipline Process:
1. Send child to room. Child must go quietly and wait quietly.
2. Prepare yourself. Pray, search for scriptures, find “root” of problem.
3. Help child find their own “root” issues.
4. Have child confess sin. Disobedience is disobedience to God.
5. Review the “rule” that was violated and consequences. Ask child.
6. Administer consequence. If the consequence is the “rod,” then:
7. Child should lean over (hands in your hands).
8. When child has submitted, administer the rod.
9. Child’s attitude should be one of humility. If not, administer the rod again as appropriate.
10. Hold and love your child. When done in love, your child will receive it in love.
11. Pray with your child, and let child ask for forgiveness. Teach 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
12. Have child ask forgiveness from person(s) wronged and make restitution as needed.
