Senior Spotlight
Kacy Ota (Sr 1): The Senior 1 Group has had a busy October. The training
began to be increased in yardage and intensity remained as it had through
September, and two competitions for this group during the month.
The first of two competitions was the swim meet in Carpenteria. The Senior
1 group attended on Sunday. It began with a one hour workout on the beach
consisting of Dynamic Stretching, an Indian Run, a Beach Run, and two Med
ball and Core Circuits. From there the group made the quick trip to the pool
where went right into warm-up and then the day of two to three races. The
whole group concluded with a snack at The Spot in Carpenteria.
The Second Competition was our hosted Rancho Invitational. The group did
a short 3 day rest during the week and came up with some really good
performances for October. 17 Lifetime Best Times came in Season at this for
this group on 3 days rest. Can't wait until they are able to get a full 2 – 3
week taper in December.
Peter Daland (Sr 2): Entering the month of November we will begin our
month with the yearly and exciting team bonding "Spirit Week." The
objective is to bond with our teammates and revitalize our training efforts
toward the end of the year training season. It is always important to
remember that swimming and training is a team sport and you can have fun
while focusing on hard work and improvements. One of the goals for
November to increase our distance base and maximize our training sets by
swimming many of our sets at threshold training levels. We will also be
incorporating more butterfly into the workouts to help increase strength and
endurance. Remember to commit to our attendance - you cannot improve if
your effort and attendance do not match. Last note: thank you all for the
wonderful birthday. See you all at the pool.

Blue Group Scoop
Coach Kevin (CLU): Our CSSC's Blue Team at CLU in the
past month has been training well and effectively. We are
showing good results nightly in the pool and at swim meets.
We have transitioned from September's drills and long aerobic
sets into time based interval sets. We are and will be
continuing with the drills to help with correct stroke
mechanics. The interval sets have made the blue group
stronger and as a result a steady improvement in each
swimmer's race times is evident. Recently starting blocks were
set up to allow us to train more on our racing dives and sprints. As a coach, I
am excited and looking forward to a fast November.
Coach Jen (Rancho): Our October transition from mostly
stroke work to mostly training has gone really well. Our
training thresholds have improved noticeably and the
group’s overall fitness level is visibly stronger. We are
entering the toughest part of our training going into
November. We will be going even higher in yardage,
baby-stepping towards even faster training intervals
getting ready to focus on speed in December to prepare for WAGs. Swimmers
will need more sleep, healthy meals and good hydration to aid with workout
recovery and to ward off winter cold season. Meet Highlights: Samuel Billotte: 1,650 free CC, Zach Billotte: 100 bk JOs,,
Makenna Bloom 200 fr Natl’ A and 100 fl Natl’ B and CC, Natalia CarranzaRamirez: 100 brst Natl’ B, Matthew Finch: 100 free CC and Natl’ B, 100 bk
Natl’ B, Sawyer Graczyk: 100 brst CC, Brandon Hyde: 100 free CC, Jared
Magpantay: 100 brst and 200 IM CC, Matin Nawabi: 50 free, 50 bk, 50 brst,
and 100 IM CC.
Swimmers of the Month:
CLU: Emma Lowe is our swimmer of the month for the Blue Team
at CLU. Emma joined our team recently this past Spring.. Just one
day after arriving, she was in the pool with us training. It did not
take long for her to adapt to our team culture. She made friends
quickly and has steadily improved her times. She loves to train. She
loves to race. She recently got an A cut in the 50 free.
Rancho: Samuel Billotte is Rancho Blue group swimmer of the
month. He has nearly perfect attendance since the start of the
season and does a great job as a lane and group leader at
practice. He has been focused on his goals we set this season
including competing in the 1,650 (mile) for the first time getting a
Coastal Champs cut his first time out.

Red Group Corner
Coach Teri (Rancho):October has been a great month for
Red team! We have made great strides in stroke
improvement, have continued to bond as a group and I feel
that our group has the best team spirit! Maybe it's the cookies!
The turnout at the Rancho swim meet was phenomenal, with
35 Red swimmers from Rancho and CLU. There were HUGE
drops in times, with several swimmers dropping as much as 10
seconds on an event! Next up will be (hopefully) the David
Graham, PVST and our own Holiday meet.
Coach Brian (CLU): The Red Group at CLU is continuing to make great
progress! We’ve had the opportunity to go into all of the strokes in detail, along
with starts, turns, and finishes. Over the course of the next several weeks we
will be turning some of the focus to physical training, preparing for the
upcoming winter and spring meets. As always, we’ll continue to pay close
attention to the details of technique and proficiency. I use the word “fluent” a
lot, which is my goal—to help our athletes become fluent in the language of
swimming!
Meet Highlights: Kim Costantino: 11-12 Coastal Champs 100 IM, 100 free
Natl’ A, and Natl’ BB in the 50 bk, 50 best and 200 IM, Andrew Kennedy:
Coastal Champs 200 Aylan Nawabi made her first B cut in her first meet for
our team in the 50 breasstroke. Daniella Sauer made a B cut in the 50 free
and the 100 free and Mackenzie Jorgenson made her B cut in the 50
breastroke. Good job, girls!
Swimmer of the Month:
CLU: Our swimmer of the month is Kim Constantino. Following
a breakthrough summer, Kim has been on a roll this fall. Her
success rate of achieving best times is over 90% and she has
consistently demonstrated herself to be one of our hardest
workers. I see her confidence building and admire the way she
has stepped up in consistently leading her lane. Congratulation,
Kim!
Rancho: Swimmer of the month for Rancho
Red Team is Ashtyn Parkinson. Ashtyn has consistently
been one of the hardest workers in the group for the last year
and her hard work sure showed at the Rancho swim meet,
where she had big drops in every event. Ashtyn can be
relied on to be a lane leader and a team leader and I always
appreciate having her.

White Group Whereabouts
Coach Andy (Rancho): October was absolutely incredible thanks to the home
swim meet. Never before have we had so many White Groupers attend a meet,
and everyone swam so well, too! Thanks to the meet, we were able to make
the connection between our hard work at practice and our results from that
hard work. We recently had a talk about why we go to swim practice and what
needs to be done to meet those goals. The most exciting part of October was
without a doubt the personal growth from all of the swimmers.
As for November, the biggest thing I want everyone to be aware of is the
weather change. The pool is heated, so they'll be fine in the water, but I just
really want to make sure they’re wearing warm clothes out of the water. Thank
you so much.
Coach Morgan (CLU): This last month White Group CLU has done a
wonderful job of staying on task and listening. We worked on our stone
skippers for butterfly, flip turns, breast stroke kicks, stream lines, and dives!
Each swimmer is getting stronger and stronger everyday. I want to thank the
swimmers who make an effort in coming everyday to practice. Can't wait to
have more fun this next month!
Meet Highlights:Participants:Stephen Alemany, Bennett Ayola, Julia Billotte,
Lindsey Billotte, Nina Deng, Amanda Eames, Grant Herzer, Miller Howard,
Jasmine Le, Gianna Miceli, Nicolas Miceli, Zoe Misiowiec, Ava Nawabi, Kaitlyn

and 50 back- Coastal Champs, Keelan Nygren: 50 fr and 50 bk Coastal Champs.
Swimmer of the Month:
Rancho: Our October swimmer of the month is Abby
Grunberger! Abby has been doing an excellent job of not only
knowing what she needs to do, but making sure she
understands why. There have been many times where she
asked me questions after practice about some of my critiques
that were not quite clear. Her attention to detail and desire to
improve are very inspiration, so
congratulations to Abby!
CLU: This month I chose Elaine Cheung to be swimmer of the
month! She has a great attendance and does a wonderful job
helping me to demonstrate some of the drills! I can't wait to see
her succeed and build on to her strokes. Elaine is a very strong
swimmer and continues to get stronger and stronger. Thank you
for listening and staying positive.

Green Group Goings-On
Coach Sara and Coach Jen: This past month we
focused a lot on racing dives and on swimming
backstroke. In preparation for the Rancho Invite Meet
we worked on our backstroke stroke count so we could
do fast and legal backstroke finishes. We also worked
on our touch turns so we could race our 50s (two lap
races) and 100s (four lap races). We have also been
learning how to pace for our races. Since we are not
strong enough yet to go full speed for multiple laps, we
have been talking about being fast in the beginning but
saving energy so we can sprint full-speed on the last
lap.
In November, we are going to continue working on racing dives and we still
need to focus on our streamlines. We will also be working on legalizing our
breaststroke kick, improving our butterfly body position, and introducing flipturns for freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers should also expect our yardage
(number of laps we do at each practice) to start going up slightly now that we
are in better shape and can perform freestyle
more competently. We are heading towards colder weather! Please
be sure that your swimmers have warm clothes
and warm shoes to wear at practice! It is much
more cold once you are wet, and swimmers who
are cold all the time tend to want to stop
swimming in the winter. Wearing a swim cap will
help keep your swimmer’s head warm in the
water. Congratulations to Riley Payne, Charlotte Gesell and
Gunnar Schmidt for participating in their first CSSC
meet!
Swimmer of the Month:
Charlotte Gesell is our Green group swimmer of the
month! She always comes to practice enthusiastic to
learn and works hard in the pool. At her first meet, she
had a great attitude and some amazing swims making
both Coach Sara and Coach Jen very proud!
