Numeracy – We will be learning to: Literacy Computing We will be reading and writing fiction, using ideas from Bill’s New Frock and The Egyptian Cinderella. Take notes from the Tutankhamun video and rewrite Howard Carter’s diary entry on the day the tomb was opened. We will study information texts and write a page for an information book about Ancient Egypt. We will be practising our handwriting and spelling. We will bring home spelling words each week. We will read in a group each week, and can earn stickers and prizes if we get our reading diary signed. Grammar - direct speech, paragraphs. Science The first unit will be Key Skills. Children will make their own computer game using 2DIY. They will have the chance to test and play theirs and other children’s games. Understand place value and use this to order and compare numbers. To round numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000. Add and subtract numbers with up to 4 digits. To solve problems using addition and subtraction. We will be continuing to have 1 Big Maths lesson each week. WELCOME TO YEAR 4! We will be describing the simple functions of the digestive system in humans. RE Autumn 1 Learn about the the Church family. We will be talking about who belongs to our family, then learn about some of the family connections in the Bible. We will identify the different types of teeth in humans and their functions. We will learn to classify living things and construct a variety of food chains. History: Ancient Egypt We will be learning all about Ancient Egypt. Understand the importance of the Nile to the Ancient Egyptians. Show what life was like for farmers. Write Howard Carter’s diary entry 26th Nov 1922. Use drama to explore Egyptian belief on the afterlife. We will also visit Bolton Museum and take part in an Ancient Egyptian workshop.
