PETALING JAYA: Zoo Negara will
be hosting a birthday bash for giant
pandas Xing Xing and Liang Liang
at Dataran Datuk Ismail Hutson in
the zoo today.
The panda pair, who turned nine
on Aug 23, were born in Wolong
district, Sichuan province, China, in
2006.
Zoo Negara patron Sultan of
Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris
Shah will be attending as the Royal
Guest of Honour at the event.
Zoo Negara will be releasing a set
of five postcards with photos drawn
by China Panda Master Liu Jinquan
to commemorate the pandas' birth­
day.
The collaboration with Pos
Malaysia Bhd marks the first time
Zoo Negara is releasing its own
postcards to the public.
The postcard set is being sold at
RM9 (including GST) nationwide.
At the event, Zoo Negara will also
break a record in Malaysia Book of
Records for the largest panda replica
cake in Malaysia, in a collaboration
between the zoo and the culinary arts
and gastronomy department from
Universiti Teknologi Mara's Faculty
of Hotel and Tourism Management.
A total of 30 staff members are
involved in the making of the cake.
Visitors born on Aug 23 and chil­
dren aged 12 and below will get free
admission to Zoo Negara today.
Adult visitors will be given a spe­
cial 10% discount for online pur­
chases.
