KEY POINTS FUTURE NEEDS AND COSTS • • • • • • • • The cost of supporting one Arnold Foundation boarding pupil is currently £36,500 per annum. • Up to 100% of fees and essential extras (uniform, laptop, trips, books) are available subject to means testing. • Funds are secured entirely from voluntary donations. • Donors are Rugbeians, past and present parents and friends of the School. • All overseas pupils receive specific support (from the Hong Kong Friends of Rugby School and Lee Hysan Foundation). • Awards are funded from annual revenue and income from endowment. Gifts for the Endowment Fund must be identified as such, by the donor, at the time of donation. • At least £1.4 million is required annually to support Arnold Foundation pupils in the School. he Arnold Foundation is unique because it is so carefully targeted. T We work with partner organisations to identify suitable candidates. All pupils must satisfy normal entry requirements. The final selection is through interviews. All Arnold Foundation awards are means tested. Up to 100% of fees and essential extras is available. E xcellent pastoral care and the House system provide strong support. • Additional guidance is available to pupils from 12 designated tutors. • D edicated parent liaison assists families during term time and holidays. ARNOLD FOUNDATION AMBASSADORS Former Arnold Foundation pupils become Ambassadors for the programme. We keep in touch with them, invite them to events and welcome them back to Rugby School. They are encouraged to: • A ct as mentors and provide information or advice to current Arnold Foundation pupils. • Provide regular updates on news and progress. • Speak at Arnold Foundation events when required. • Attend the annual meeting of Ambassadors. • A spire to be a leader in society and inspire others by example. • K eep in touch with, and support, wherever possible, those in their home community, thereby raising aspiration in others. • A spire, in the future, to become donors to the Arnold Foundation and give back to others who need their support. ABOUT RUGBY SCHOOL • Founded in 1567. • One of the UK’s leading co-educational boarding schools. • 807 pupils between the ages of 11-18 today in school. • 80% of pupils are boarding. • A boy:girl ratio of around 54:46 AIMS Founded more than a decade ago and built on a tradition of helping children, Rugby’s Arnold Foundation provides fully funded places to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the most to gain from a boarding education and are likely to flourish at Rugby. • To transform lives and raise aspirations. • To find pupils who will truly benefit. • To ensure that 10% of pupils at the School are fully funded either through the Lawrence Sheriff Bequest (day pupils) or though the Arnold Foundation (boarding pupils). • To raise sufficient funds to support these ambitious aims. PROGRESS TO DATE • • • • • • 1 15 boys and girls have benefited to date. There are 35 Arnold Foundation pupils at Rugby today. Pupils join at 13+ or 16+ for the sixth form. Funding comes entirely from voluntary donations. Over £19.6 million secured. 10% of pupils at Rugby School are supported through the Lawrence Sheriff Bequest or the Arnold Foundation. • A rnold Foundation pupils are selected because they stand to gain the most from a boarding education. • A rnold Foundation pupils participate fully in Rugby life representing the School in various ways. • A rnold Foundation pupils benefit from raised aspirations, increased confidence, enhanced social skills and heightened perceptions of what it is possible to achieve in life. • O ther Rugby pupils benefit from the intellectual and social diversity and insight into less privileged backgrounds. • A rnold Foundation pupils stay in touch with their communities and are encouraged to act as role models and mentors.
