Sandhills Hiking Trail This single-use trail circles the park’s 30-acre lake. Hikers will enjoy the sights and sounds of the Sandhills as they venture into the forest and through wetlands on boardwalks. Look for fox squirrels and listen for pileated woodpeckers as you enjoy this scenic trail. Length: 2 miles Signage: White diamonds Uses: Hiking (Biking not permitted) Mountain Bike Trail This multi-use trail is ideal for mountain biking enthusiasts as well as beginners. It is of moderate difficulty, so beginners should use caution. Approximately 4 miles of the trail are single track, winding through more remote forested areas of the park. Riders of this trail will get close-up views of longleaf pines and turkey oaks, two of the most common tree species in the Sandhills region. Length: 6 miles Signage: Blue diamonds Uses: Biking, hiking, and jogging Loop Trail This multi-use trail uses an existing roadbed, making it a wide trail great for joggers, hikers, and bikers. See a diversity of plants and wildlife on this trail as you circle through the park’s forests and wetlands. Length: 3.5 miles Signage: none Uses: Hiking, biking, and jogging *Warning! A section of this trail is open to vehicle traffic, so trail users should use caution. Jackson Creek Nature Trail This trail is a short loop that will take you through a bottomland forest area, upward into an open pine habitat, and end with a scenic view of Centennial Lake. As you walk along the trail follow the interpretive signs to learn about many of the plants and animals that call Sesqui home. Look closely and you might see a prickly pear cactus or a Carolina anole.
