Prayer Circle Volunteers Needed: Zion Lutheran Church
has been a praying church for many years. Zion has had a
TELEPHONE PRAYER CIRCLE made up of Christians who
are part of a network of prayer partners. As a need, concern, or thanksgiving is made know, the phone chain begins and
each individual on the prayer circle is called and asked to pray for
the specific requested need, concern or thanksgiving. All of this is
done in the privacy of your own home.
Each prayer partner is provided a PRAYER PARTNER BOOKLET which
contains: Easy to follow instructions, Prayers for all occasions, Bible passages to encourage you. If this is the kind of ministry you
would like to become a part of, please talk to Pastor Neal or complete the volunteer form and return it to the Information Center
or Church Office. (forms available at the Information Center).
Sunday School: Congratulations to the 4th/5th grade class on perfect attendance last week. Thanks for singing last week. It was a
fun and lively song with two languages and the drums! There is no
class on Easter Sunday. All children will be able to participate in
the Palm Sunday Processional during the singing of the first
hymn. Thanks to our processional leaders.
Money Sanity Solutions classes—join us today at 9:40am in
the Fireside Room where our topic will be “Volunteerism” invest yourself in others. If you need a book, please stop
by the Information Desk.
Zion in Prayer on Saturday (ZIPS) is April 2. You are invited to
come for 1 hour to the Fireside Room from 9-10am for intercessory
prayer. Prayer is sometimes silent and other times outloud. Why
not come and join others who are seeking God’s heart. ZIPS is an
open setting for new people to come and join in. Doors open at
8:45am. All are welcome and bring a friend if you’d like. Questions? Please call Karen at 952-935-4356 or Carolyn at 952-935-5909.
30 Day Challenge “Make Do”: To help set the tone for this challenge our staff at Zion has committed itself to as much as possible
make do with what we have. Even though the staff has always
been frugal and very conscious about “Spending” for needed supplies and services we have challenged ourselves to see how far we
can make things stretch during the 30 day congregational challenge. When Rick Tupa (property manager) needs a piece of wood,
a nut or bolt, etc. to repair something he will try to use something
in the garage or make it himself if possible. Rather than order a
cake from the bakery Matt Connelly (youth director) will be asking
parents or others to make some cakes for upcoming events. Brice
Petersen (Music Director) will scourer the music files for existing
music for choirs rather than order new music. The pastor’s will
give 10% shorter sermons… (joke). The point is God has wonderfully blessed Zion and together as members and staff we want to
use what we have as wisely as possible. Pray, worship and financially give as you are able. Thank you!

LENTEN TIDBIT #8
Easter Foods: many Easter customs and legends were pagan.
These the church reinterpreted. Even the name Easter is pagan,
meaning simply “springtime”.
 Eggs & Chicks are often associated with Easter because in Pagan
times they were signs of Fertility and New Life. The Early Christians took over the meaning of New Life because it helped them
remember the Resurrection of having New Life through Jesus.
 Eggs were used by the ancient Persians and Egyptians to celebrate New Year, which happened for them in spring time. The
eggs were colored and eaten during the celebrations. In Europe,
colored eggs were used to celebrate Easter as house decorations.
In Eastern European countries, such as Hungary and Romania,
wooden eggs are beautifully painted in lots of different patterns.
In Russian, during the early years of the 20th century, the former
Royal rulers Czar Alexander III and Czar Nicholas II had some very
special Easter Eggs made for them by the jeweler Carl Fabergé.
THE 30 DAY CHALLENGE…
You as a member or friend of Zion are the backbone of
our congregation. We are asking you to take a 30 day
challenge. Zion has experienced during the first two
months of 2016 a slip in worship attendance and financial donations
which are troubling. We do not have enough money to cover all
our expenses. Since we are still funded almost exclusively by individual donations from our members and friends any downturn in
contributions affects our ability to serve our congregation and community.
1. For the next 30 days PRAY for God’s blessing not only upon
yourself but that the saving truth of Jesus Christ be made
available and nurtured among your families, neighbors, community, nation and world.
2. For the next 30 days BE PRESENT REGULARLY (every week
if possible) at a worship experience (Sunday, Mid-week or
small group Bible Studies) with fellow Christians at Zion to
hear relevant sermons, sing/listen to uplifting music, encourage other folks in their daily walk of life.
3. During the next 30 days GIVE AN IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL DONATION TO ZION to allow us to meet all our financial obligations for 2016. Use any means you choose… check, cash,
electronic giving (via Simply Giving automatic withdrawal
program), credit card (via our website), stocks, bonds, property, etc. $1, $100, $1,000, $10,000 or more. Give as you
are able. Without the participation of you,
your brothers and sisters in Christ at Zion
nothing can happen.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a
holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the
praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful
light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
Zion Happenings
The Celebration of Holy Communion takes place today. Those desiring to be guests at the Lord’s Table
must 1) Believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior and
Lord; 2) Confess their sin, seek the assurance of forgiveness, and intend, with God’s help, to amend their
sinful life; 3) Believe that Christ is really present in this Sacrament.
If you are unsure of what has been stated here, or if you have not
been baptized, or if you are unable to answer yes to any of these
questions, please speak with the pastor before communing. For
the benefit of communicants who are allergic to alcohol or who
have dependency problems, several individual cups containing
white grape juice with a slight tincture of wine are included in the
center of each communion tray (5:00 pm & 8:30 am) or the center
chalice [large cup](10:50 am). If you would like more Information
you may pick up a brochure on the subject at the Information Center tract rack in the Gathering Area.
Easter Breakfast Donations Needed: If you can and are able to
donate food items for the Easter breakfast, please check out the
sign-up sheet at the Information Desk. Bring all donated items to
church on 3/24 or 3/25. If the item is perishable place it in the
refrigerator on shelves marked Easter Breakfast. Any questions
please contact Matt Connolly at [email protected]
Easter Breakfast! March 27th from 7:15am to 10:45am. Come
and support the youth ministry of Zion on Easter morning! The
youth will be serving a wonderful breakfast egg dish, along with
bacon, fruit, and breakfast breads. The funds raised will support
the whole youth ministry as well as the summer trip to New Orleans for the National Youth Gathering.
Morning Glory Circle Will be meeting on Wednesday, March 23rd
at 9:30m in the Fireside Room. Donna Schwartz will be the hostess. They will be discussing “Taking Pleasure in Dance” from page
22 of the Lutheran Women’s Quarterly.
Black Leather Hat. Did you mistakenly take a black
leather hat after the 10:50am service last Sunday
(3/13). If so, please return or contact the church office, it’s owner would greatly appreciate it’s return. Thank you.
