A mother is putting her daughter to bed
Mother
: Baby, you should sleep now. It’s late. I’ll stay here, so you won’t be scared.
Daughter : I am not sleepy yet, mom. Can I ask you a question?
Mother
: Okay, baby, but after that promise me you’ll sleep, because we need to wake up early for
school tomorrow.
Daughter : Yes, mom. I just want to ask about this word that my favorite cartoon character always
mentions. Mom, what is courage?
Mother
: Oh. Hmmm. Courage is when you are hurt, yet you still continue doing what hurts you. It’s
like when you stumble, yet you still get up and show everyone you are fine.
Daughter : Aha. It is like when I had a bruise, and you put a bandage on it, and I still continued to play.
Is that right?
Mother
: Yes, it is similar. It’s like when you are so afraid, but you still try to do the things that make
you scared to show others you can do it. That is courage, baby, and for now, you have to
sleep.
Daughter : Okay, mom, so I am like my favorite cartoon character who has courage. I am so happy. I
will sleep now. Good night, mom.
Mother
: Yes, baby. Good night.
