Aquatic models to foster innovation in biomedical research
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 23, 2014
ORGANIZERS: Xavier Bailly (Station biologique, Roscoff), Pierre Boudinot (INRA, Jouy-en-Josas), JeanStéphane Joly (CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette), Stefano Tiozzo (Observatoire, Villefranche-sur-Mer)
AIMS: Aquatic models are increasingly used in various biomedical contexts. One of the major goals of this course
is to provide a large overview of the different approaches in different aquatic organisms, at first hands in relation
to immunology, degeneration/injury and regeneration.
PHASE I – CRITICAL ASSESSMENT
September 24-26, 2014 in Bordeaux
DEGENERATION AND REGENERATION IN THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
With Thomas Becker (University of Edinburgh, GBR), Bettina Schmid (German
Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, DEU), Claire Wyart (ICM, FRA), Ana
Varela Coehlo (Oeiras, PRT)
HEART DEVELOPMENT AND REGENERATION
With Philippe Menasché (Inserm U633, FRA), Didier Stainier (Max Planck Institute
for Heart and Lung Research, DEU), Chris Jopling (Inserm U661, FRA), Lionel
Christiaen (New-York University, USA)
NEW DEFENSE MECHANISMS AND IMMUNE PATHWAYS
NEW CONCEPTS FROM AQUATIC MODEL ORGANISMS
With Bill Jeffery (University of Maryland, USA), Brigitte Galliot (Université de
Genève, CHE), Sam Dupont (University of Gothenburg, SWE), Peter Ladurner
(University of Innsbruck, AUT)
PHASE II – TECHNICAL WORKSHOP
October 6-9, 2014 in Observatoire de Villefranche-sur-Mer, Station biologique de Roscoff
Two possible practical workshops of 4 days with 3 groups of 3 persons each, both focusing on the practical use of aquatic
organisms (zebrafish, non-vertebrate chordates, non-chordate deuterostomians, protostomians, cnidarians, etc…) but
with the following specificities:
Zebrafish and marine model organisms for regeneration (Station biologique, Roscoff, FRA) coordinated by
Xavier Bailly (Station Biologique, Roscoff, FRA), Jean-Stéphane Joly (CNRS, FRA), Bill Jeffery (University of Maryland,
USA), Sam Dupont (University of Gothenburg, SWE)
Emerging marine model organisms (Observatoire de Villefranche-sur-Mer, FRA) coordinated by Stefano Tiozzo
and Evelyn Houliston (Observatoire, Villefranche-sur-Mer, FRA)
SELECTION: 18 trainees will be selected among phase I participants.
