PWID have poorer physical and mental health than other
people, and are likely to die earlier. Every PWID aged 14 and
over are entitled to a free annual health check at their GP
practice. Nationally, less than half of all PWID take this up.
HEE KSS want to explore the reasons why this is happening
in KSS involving a wide range of stakeholders.
It is expected that this project will have as one of its early
outputs a report co-produced with PWID concerning its
findings and making recommendations regarding new models
of practice. One or more of the report recommendations would
begin as a pilot stage within the project. HEE KSS will also
support the Darzi Fellow to publish their findings in an
appropriate national/ international journal.
