SPANISH NEWS—
Spanish 1—Students completed their maracas and had
staff vote on them. The winners were Kelsey Town and
Jasmine Daniels! Felicidades! Starting this semester,
students will be tracking progress on tests in their binders. Those graphs will be turned in at the end of the
semester. Students are working on perfecting their
speaking and listening skills while learning how to describe what is happening in the present and weather for
different events. They have also been spending a lot of
time learning about Puerto Rico. Unit 4 will concentrate
on exploring the culture of Oaxaca, Mexico, giving commands, describing a visit, bargaining, and restaurant etiquette.
Spanish 2—Students have been working hard to perfect
their understanding of formal commands and past tense
verbs. For Unit 4 they will be learning the subjunctive
tense (the verb tense used to express wants or desires)
while learning about Mexican culture. Students are also
working on turning in projects and assignments in on
time. They created a class goal for test scores as well.
Students have been progressing really well in Spanish
and are now completing in class assignments in Spanish!
8th grade—Students have been learning how to express
likes/dislikes of different activities. They have also been
learning how to describe people. While learning Spanish
they have been learning about the culture of the Spanish
speaking community. 8th grade finishes Spanish March
10th. 7th grade will be the next class to get an introduction to Spanish. Students have been doing a wonderful
job practicing their Spanish! We are looking forward to
giving 7th grade an opportunity to explore the Spanish
language next!

COUNSELOR’S CORNER
It has been a very busy start to the second
semester. Seniors and juniors participated in a
Tower of Power assembly, designed to help students become more aware of what it takes financially to prepare for college.
Great job to our Future Corps team for
placing positive words on all middle and high
school lockers for Valentine’s Day. Remember
students we can always find something encouraging and positive about our school and classmates.
Keep up the good work. Thank you to Dave Hall
for taking time to cut all the hearts out.
In the junior high we have been going
over our bullying classroom lessons. On February
24th we will show a movie to reinforce how to
treat each other with courtesy, respect, and kindness. Please talk with your student about what
he or she can do to help bring a positive environment to our school. Thank you parents for all
you do. If you have any questions please feel
free to contact me at [email protected] or 517-287
-4214.

LIBRARY NEWS
The NA-J libraries are undergoing many
changes. The high school library is now open all
day Monday and Thursday. Students may now
read, check out books or study at any time, including during lunch. There are more seating options
and an atmosphere that lends itself to reading and
studying. A suggestion box has been quite active
with comments and books requests.
Wednesday is elementary library day and
weekly read-aloud times for the kindergarten
through 3rd grade classes which are accompanied
by Molasses (the reader bear). Please be sure your
child returns any library books by each Wednesday.
This will help everyone benefit the most from the
library.
Library news cont.
The elementary students guessed “How
Many Tootsie Rolls” in a jar. Vince Ginolfi
guessed the exact number: 127! The h.s./m.s.
students guessed “How Many Starbursts” in a jar.
The answer was 619; Brooke Longman made the
closest guess. There were many other prize winners. More contests are coming soon.
The richness of life is enhanced by a strong
foundation of good literature. Books can take a
reader many places and they give us a greater understanding of life. I look forward to creating a
library that increases every student’s enthusiasm
for reading and expanding their world.
Keep Reading! Ms. Lynette
ART NEWS
Art for the past 2 months has been a very
busy place. We have worked on 2 different contest
and 2 different sets of poster requests, as well as
the regular art lessons. We have learned about color theory and helped with special projects such as
the refinishing of tables.
Elementary students in grades 2, 3, 4, and 5
entered the Hillsdale Daily News Ad Contest. They
designed ads for their favorite business in Hillsdale
County.
A display of the 6th grade ceramics animal
project is in the showcase in the high school hallway. They also worked very hard on a contest that
was run by the Hillsdale County Road Commission,
designing a new logo and writing a 500 word essay
about the first 100 years of the HCRC. Thank you,
Mrs. Trott, for your assistance in this lesson!
The high school students worked on bullying
posters which are displayed in the hallways and
decorating for homecoming. There is a display of
their own color wheel projects on the bulletin board
outside the art room which demonstrates their mastery of color theory. Look for further announcements on the silent auction or raffle, of the refinished table project. It is gorgeous!!
