You will find descriptions of the kind of things your child will be taking part in during the club/activity, the day(s) on which it is offered, the cost and contact details of the person(s) running the club/activity. Biographies of our music providers highlight the high levels of talents and experience. May we suggest, with regard to the number of clubs or activities your child attends, the following recommendation based on the age of the child. There will be no club on 17th and 24th October Cost € 90 Maximum number of children 12 Age Year 4 – Year 7 In the knitting club children will learn the ever popular ancient craft of knitting. Knitting helps children to relax and develop their gross and fine motor skills at the same time. It is a sociable activity with end an end result to be proud of and a skill you’ll never forget. The club will run for 1 hour after school on a Monday in the library. Children will need to be collected after the club in the library at 4.10pm. Payment is due after the first lesson. Astrid is a new teacher at our school with long years of experience in international education in different parts of the world. She will be happy to include parents should they wish to learn knitting too! The fee rate is the same for students and adults. 4 Name of Club: STEM Club Provider: Elizabeth Jaworski Contact Details: [email protected] Day of Club: Tuesday 3:15-4:15 Cost of Club: €70 Minimum Number of Children: 6 Maximum Number of Children: 12 Age: Y3-Y7 During STEM club, students will have a hands-on opportunity to design and build. We will focus on two different projects, a Jet Toy and Solar Oven. They will continue to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and how to apply them to the world around them. Liz is class teacher for year group 4. She is a native of the United States of America and has lived in the Netherlands for 3 months. She is new to Arnhem International School and is looking forward to helping students discover the fun of science and technology. 5 Name of club Construction Club - LEGO Provider Marie Korteman and Meldy Mulder Contact Details [email protected] Day of club Tuesday from 15:10-16:00 Cost €60 for 10 Sessions which will be used up in the form of a stamp card, so if your child is unable to come for one session he/she can make up for it another time. Maximum number of children 12 Age Reception to Year 4 The Lego Club will foster your child’s creativity, while enhancing their fine motor skills and logical thinking abilities. We will include group work on projects and presentations to the class to help foster sharing and building self- confidence. This is also very beneficial to those children who are new to English. Marie and Meldy are the year 1 teachers at our school with over 12 years of Early Childhood teaching experience. The club will run for 1 hour after school on a Tuesday in the year one classrooms. We will provide Lego Duplo and Lego and the children are also free to bring and share their own creations. Children will need to be collected after the club in the Aula at 4.00pm. Maximum number of children 12 Age Year 1 – Year 4 Mandy is a teacher in Year 1. This club will give children of mixed ages an opportunity to learn skills and have fun playing a variety of board and floor games. Games don't need to be overly academic to be educational, however. Just by virtue of playing them, board games can teach important social skills, such as communicating verbally, sharing, and waiting, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others. Board games can foster the ability to focus, and lengthen your child's attention span by encouraging the completion of an exciting, enjoyable game. The club will run for 1 hour after school on a Thursday in the Year 1 classroom. Children will need to be collected after the club in the classroom at 4.00pm. However, I would be more than happy to provide after school supervision. I am sure we will have great fun reading stories, playing outside and drawing pictures, among other things. In this way your child can develop his/her Dutch language skills in a relaxed environment. Max. number of children 12 Age Year 4 – Year 7 There is much that can be said about drama: that it stimulates your imagination, your creativity, your confidence and your language skills. All of this is true, of course, but we mustn't forget that drama also is a lot of fun! Each Monday after school, the drama club will come together from 3 through 4 pm in the small hall behind the Aula. We'll go through several drama exercises and work on an actual play to be performed at the end of the term. My name is Rob Versteegt, and next to being a teacher, I've written and directed several plays for children. STUDIO SING & FLING Singing Lessons, Highland Dancing, and Ballet Crystel Benton – owner/instructor [email protected] Crystel is New Zealand born singer, dancer, choreographer and teacher. After taking dance and music lessons from age 4 Crystel went on Graduate from the University of Otago, NZ with Bachelor of Music (Hons) and later 2012 with a Masters of Music from the Utrecht Conservatory. Most recently Crystel has performed as soloist in Berlin Tattoo, Antwerp Tattoo, Internatonale Taptoe Belgie, Musikparade (tour of German arenas) Ring Rider festival in Denmark and The Netherlands Military Tattoo. In 2016 Crystel has been invited back as soloist to perform the Internationale Taptoe Belgie. As a dancer, performing at the Edinburgh military Tattoo, Tattoos in Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand and France. Now continues to work closely with the Dutch Pipes and drums and Internationale Taptoe Belgie as the lead dancer and choreographer. The Scottish Highland dance, as well as the ballet classes aim to build confidence for both solo or group performance for dancers. Students will be given opportunities to participate in concerts in school, competitions and international shows. The singing lessons provide students with the opportunity to work one-on-one and explore their own sound and musicality through a range of different styles from light pop to classical. Evelien Cazemier will be joining Crystel as a teaching assistant in Scottish Highland dancing. As a premier dancer Evelien has danced from a young age and for the past two years has been the lead instructor in the Zuid Laren dance school. 15 INSTRUMENTAL Anamaria Stamp Piano /Jazz Singing + Improvisation Teacher [email protected] Romanian pianist, Anamaria Stamp finished her undergraduate studies at the Academy of Music in Romania, and finished her Master studies at the Artez Conservatory in Arnhem. She met her master studies teacher, Frank van de Laar, at Academia Sighisoara in Romania, which she organises since 2013 and moved to the Netherlands in 2010 to continue her master studies. There, Ana participated in number of big projects, such as playing „Les Noces” by Stravinsky together with Dance Company Introdans, performing for the Queen of Holland and touring with them around the country and playing various chamber concerts in the Netherlands. Ana started teaching piano in Rivers International School Arnhem in 2012, and was invited to teach at masterclasses held in Tullamore, Ireland in summer 2011 and 2015 with Adele O’Dwyer (cello). When not playing the piano, Ana sings with her quintet, „Ana Stamp jazz quintet”, which was formed in 2010. Ana enjoys performing contemporary music and she has her own projects "The Good Practice Hour", “Performing Romanian Contemporary music” and “Children Music Projects”. She has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphonic Orchestra, the Vector Wellington Orchestra, Kugeltov Klezmer Quartet, various new music and chamber ensembles in the Netherlands, and was leader of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band. In 2014, she recorded a solo piece by Nico Huijbregts for his CD, Hoe alles oplost. She studied piano through the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, and has worked as an instrumental and ballet accompanist. She has 20 years’ experience teaching woodwinds and piano, both privately and within the UK and NZ school systems, often following the ABRSM exam syllabus. She worked with toplevel young musicians at the Chethams School of Music in Manchester and the New Zealand School of Music Academy. She recently completed a second Master’s degree in music pedagogy at the Royal Conservatoire Den Haag. Aside from broadening her knowledge base in pedagogical theory, ensemble leading, and the Kodaly and Dalcroze methods, she conducted an extensive research on the use of improvisation and movement in instrumental lessons to nurture a creative disposition in her students. From the age of twelve he found that playing guitar was more than just a hobby. In his journey of making it his profession he was taught by several well-known guitarists such as Frank Sichmann, Onno Kelk and Henk van Benthem. Along the way he began teaching guitar and bass at a music school in Bocholt, Germany and since 2015 he has taught here at Rivers International School Arnhem. In addition to teaching Jascha is involved in several bands and music projects wherein he not only plays but is also involved in promotion and management. Available: Tuesdays/Thursdays Maarten Vugs Percussions (drums) / Bagpipes [email protected] Young And Splendid (YAS) Pipes and Drums Club and DrumKids Club Maarten, a former secondary (high school) teacher of German language, began playing percussion at the age of six. He has participated in several symphonic bands and orchestras throughout his career. He currently plays bagpipes with the Dutch Pipe and Drum band based in Tilburg, teaches percussion at a Kaatsheuvel music school and conducts a percussion ensemble.
