AMUNDSON, Robin
Born: June 24, 1948, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
The elder of the two racing Amundson brothers from Adelaide, Robin joined Hull in 1971 and proved to
be something of a controversial character in his spell at The Boulevard. He had an impressive first
season in East Yorkshire, averaging almost six points per match in 31 league and cup outings, which
included an impressive paid eleven score on his debut. He was back for a second season in 1972 and
impressed again as he added to his average and took over as the third heat leader at the club, providing
superb back up to the top two of Tony Childs and Dave Mills.
After two seasons in the Second Division, Robin started a third year with the club but made it clear that
it was top flight racing that he wanted, and when a move was not forthcoming he packed his bags and
headed back to Adelaide in July, leaving the ‘Vikings’ somewhat in the lurch. His self-imposed exile
continued in 1974 but, with the club now in the top division, he returned to Hull in 1975 with the hatchet
seemingly buried. Sadly, things did not work out for Robin in the First Division and he was averaging
under four points per match when he again quit in mid-season and returned home. Robin made one
appearance for Australia, scoring a single point against Great Britain at Adelaide on December 15,
1973.
