Invitation of guest speaker Gabriel Anctil at UML, MA March 27, 2008 As a part of “the fortnight of francophonie” celebrated in New England (March 13-28), Montreal-based filmmaker, journalist from Télé-Québec and specialist of Lowell native writer Jack Kerouac, Gabriel Anctil delivered a paper entitled “Kerouac, Quebec and the French Language”. Organized by the Délégation du Québec in Boston and co-sponsored at UMass Lowell by the Department of Cultural Studies and the Jack Kerouac Center for American Studies. Seminar on Ousmane Sembene with Dr. Sow at UML, MA February 29, 2008 Public seminar presenting the works, life and importance of Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembene with a projection of acclaimed film Faat Kiné (2000) and a lecture delivered by guest speaker Dr. Moussa Sow, assistant professor of French at The College of New Jersey. The title of his paper was “Constructing the image of the female body in Sembene’s cinema”. Event sponsored by the Department of Cultural Studies at UMass Lowell.
