Come on Spring! We can’t wait to be
able to go outside and enjoy the
beautiful weather again! This past
month was full of lots of exciting
activities and lots of learning! We also
welcomed some new friends to our HLC
family, including one teacher! Miss
Natalie joined us as the Pre-K 2
assistant teacher to Miss Haley. She
has been a great asset to our staff and
we look forward to getting to know her
better! Please be sure to give her a
warm welcome when you see her!
Welcome Miss Natalie!
This month the children of Harleysville
Learning Center will be learning about
different children’s authors who make
reading so much fun! We will start off
the month with Dr. Seuss and reading
many Cat in the Hat books. Dr. Seuss’s
birthday is Sunday, March 2nd which is
also “Read Across America Day” so
what better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss
than to read books to your children or
have them read books to you! We will
celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on
Monday, March 3rd by wearing red &
white! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Next,
we will celebrate the Irish holiday, St.
Patrick’s Day! Remember St. Patrick’s
Day parties will be held on Friday,
March 14th, see your child’s teacher for
a sign up sheet! Also don’t forget to
wear GREEN to celebrate! We will
finish out the month learning about a
few other authors who have written
many other children’s books!

Over the past month we have been singing, dancing, reading stories and working on

*Baby Fun Fact….*

When babies are born they have 300 bones.
Their bones fuse together as they grow
Resulting in fewer bones like adults,206.

Happy March! It's hard to believe that spring is right around the corner after all of the snow and
cold weather we have had! The kids and I can not wait until it is warm enough to play outside!
We have been working very hard on tracing/writing our names. It would be wonderful if you
could help your child along with this skill! We have also learned the numbers 1-10 from
September until now! We will start reviewing these numbers. We will also be learning the letters
S, T, and U as well as reviewing the letters A-R.
The themes for this month include:
March 3rd-7th: Dr. Seuss
March 10th-14th: St. Patrick's Day
March 17th-21st: Eric Carle
March 24th-28th: Kevin Henkes
March 31st-April 1st: Mo Willems
We will be having a St. Patrick's Day party on Friday, March 14th. Please be on the look -out
for a sign-up sheet for the party. I hope you have a wonderful time enjoying the spring weather
with your child this month! Happy spring!

Pre-K 2
I could not be more excited for the themes we have this month. We will be exploring books by
some of my favorite authors. First, I want to give a warm welcome to Miss Natalie who is our
new Pre-K 2 assistant teacher. Also, I want to wish Bella a Happy Birthday who will be 5 on
March 16th. There are a lot of dates to remember for this month, so please take careful note of
each one!
Happy 110th Birthday, Dr. Seuss! We will be remembering and honoring him this week
as we read all the wonderful books he has written. On Monday, March 3rd, we will have a special
surprise as we read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. On Tuesday, March 4th wear your
most colorful socks as we read Fox in Socks. On Wednesday, March 5th wear a wacky outfit as
we read Wacky Wednesday. On Thursday, March 6th we will have strawberry wafers and a
green M&M on white chocolate to look like green eggs and ham as we read the book Green
Eggs and Ham. On Friday, March 7th bring in your favorite Dr. Seuss book! We will have lots of
fun crafts and activities to go along with each of these special days.
Next, we’ll take a small break from these wonderful authors to celebrate St. Patrick’s
Day. We will be learning all about shamrocks, leprechauns and pots of gold. Since St. Patrick’s
Day falls on a Monday, we will be celebrating it at the end of the week. On Wednesday, March
12th we’ll be having a treasure hunt to find the pot of gold that was hidden by the leprechaun. On
Friday, March 14th wear as much green as you can! We will also be having our St. Patrick’s Day
party with a snack of Shamrock shaped cookies and shamrock milkshakes.
We will then spend a week learning about Eric Carle. We will make art projects of the
different characters in his books. We will be changing from caterpillars into butterflies, building
webs and planting seeds. On Friday, March 21st, we will be watching “Eric Carle: Picture Writer”
which shows how Eric Carle creates the artwork for his picture books.
Kevin Henkes is the next author we’ll be exploring. We will be learning about coins as
we read Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse, We will also be making black and white sketches as Kevin
Henkes did for Kitten’s First Full Moon. On Wednesday, March 26th, send in a small paragraph
about how your child’s name was chosen. We will be sharing them with our friends as we read
Chrysanthemum.
Our last theme will be Mo Willems. The Pigeon series that he writes is fun because the
children can interact with them. The Elephant and Piggie books are also super silly and funny.
There is never a time that I read a book from either series where the audience isn’t laughing.
We will also use his books to talk about the dynamics of a story. We’ll discuss thought bubbles
vs. talk bubbles, how he uses a bunch of small squares to illustrate a series of actions, as well
as how he uses scribbles lines and red eyes to describe strong emotions. On Thursday, March
27th bring in your favorite stuffed animal or doll from home that you would be sad if it got lost!
This month we will be focusing on the letters S-U. We will be working hard to
identify them and say their sounds. We are continuing to work on our vowel sounds as well as
beginning to make short vowel consonant blends. Some have even begun working on site
words. For math we are continuing very simple addition with manipulatives. For science we will
continue to do science experiments. We are continuing to work on our fine motor skills as we
practice handwriting and scissor practice.

March is here! Hopefully, we will be lucky enough to see GREEN very soon! Our
classroom will be incorporating the following authors/themes this month: Dr. Seuss, St.
Patrick’s Day, Eric Carle, and Kevin Henkes. The kindergarteners will be participating in
academic activities with the letters S, T, and U. March 2 nd is Read Across America Day
as well as Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. What better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday than
reading to your child? This would be a great time to cuddle up and read a book! All
students will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, March 14 th. We will be having
small parties throughout the day to include every child in the festivities. Other activities
this month will include assembling Cat in the Hat hats, participating in a treasure hunt,
creating paper collage creatures, and lots and lots of reading!
As always, our classroom provides the perfect opportunity for your child to
practice their academic skills. If you find that your child could use some extra practice
with any academic skills, then please let Miss Kristen know. We are looking forward to
another great month of learning and growing together!
