Parents` Association Meeting Wednesday, January 15th

Parents’ Association Meeting
Wednesday, January 15th
Teacher/Staff Luncheon
• K,1st,4th,7th,8th grades
• Wednesday, February 12th
• In need of point person to organize theme, food, and dining room
volunteers
** discussion:
• We are in need of a point person(s) to help coordinate this fun event. Including
organizing a theme. It can be anything – we’ve had a Parisian, Harvest, BBQ etc. Please
reach out to us and let us know if you can help in any way.
Harbor Celebrities:
• Organized by 5th grade families
• Sunday, March 2nd 2pm-5pm
• In need of Talent Coordinator, Program Organizer, Venue, Chinese
Auction Items
** discussion:
• Venue for this popular event is still being discussed…any ideas or contacts would be
greatly appreciated. The need for a stage was discussed as was the familial feel people
had when it was held in the new Harbor gym last year. The concern is that numbers have
increased and seating was a bit tight.
• Meri R. volunteered to help organize.
• Chinese Auction items – are done both individually and by the grades. For example –
class parents usually reach out to their classes and a theme is picked: ‘movie night’ – and
parents donate…a popcorn bucket, tix to movie theater, etc etc. Completely up to the
families. Kids tend to get involved in the choice as well! In addition, families can take
the donation letter and go to their local Target, ice cream parlor, dry cleaner (!) anywhere they frequent and get items donated. Even small items matter as they can be
added to a basket.
Spring Benefit:
• ALL GRADES!
• Friday, March 28th at Coindre Hall in Huntington
• Many Subcommittees: Sponsorship, Casino, Event planner/designer,
Program, Raffle/Auction Items
• Please fill out Volunteer forms….we need YOU!!! ASAP
** discussion:
• We are very early in the planning stages. We could truly use any help that is offered.
(see subcommittees above) If you don’t have the form, just reach out to us in person or
by emailing [email protected] and we can get you involved according to
your availability and interest (even if that interest is just a general interest to help).
• We are planning a trip for this Wednesday, Jan 22nd at 11am to Coindre Hall – all are
most Welcome!!! (No artistic, creative or design expertise required) Please contact
Angela or Agnes [email protected]
• This year’s event will be combined with the Alumni Committee as we honor a former
beloved teacher: Mr. DeKnipp (at Harbor for 25 years). We are looking to celebrate
this incredible school – past and present.
• Discused Raffle items and Sponshorhip – this is an area where everyone can participate.
For example: one parent has already reached out to a photographer (for a photo package
to be auctioned off) and to a famous luxury hotel for a free night’s stay….other items in
the past have included a parent with interest in woodworking who made a doll’s cradle,
tickets to the Opera or the Knicks etc etc. Limitless possibilities.
Super Raffle
• Please continue to buy/sell tickets
• Only 500 tickets sold for a chance to win $10,000 or free tuition
** discussion:
• Ticket sales are currently approximately 130 sold
• Discussed use of the much loved Mr. Softee as incentive. (if x amount
are sold, Mr Softee will come to the school to give out free ice cream
to the kids…and adults)
