On behalf of MACRS as President, thank you for
attending MACRS 33rd Annual Spring Conference. We
have planned exciting and interactive sessions this
year based on our theme, “Technical Information for
Transportation.” Technical information rises to the
top of the list of concerns for county road department
issues. Questions come up of how can we provide
better road inventories including hours on the job,
materials used, equipment maintained; access to crash
data to assist in maintaining and building safer roads;
and developing and maintaining a sign inventory—just
to name a few major concerns.

Roads Scholar Program 2013
With increased traf ic
as Montana grows
and new technologies
becoming available,
there is the need for
more diverse skills and
knowledge necessary
for maintenance
and preservation on
roadways. Montana has
over 70,000 miles of
roads in cities, counties,
and highway districts.
The Montana LTAP
Roads Scholar Program
provides not only
recognition of roadway
professionals that
are constructing and
maintaining these
Montana roadways,
but also promotes
attendance at safety
workshops and further
learning and education.
MACRS 2013
The Roads Scholar
curriculum is designed
to provide participants
with the fundamentals of
safety, management, and
advanced technologies,
as well as exposure to
a wide variety of other
topics relevant to the
transportation ield.
Through this program,
local agencies will be
providing an
opportunity to develop
the agencies’ greatest
asset -- its employees.
Starting January 1,
2001, Montana LTAP
started recording
workshops taken by
participants up to the
present time. There will
be some provisions for
some courses and the
Director will determine
the student’s ability to
demonstrate a basic
knowledge of the subject.
Both Roads Scholar Level I and Level II • Road MASTER certi icate
holders will be recognized statewide for their accomplishment in
addition to receiving awards.
Level I: Ten workshops are required to complete Level I. Four core
classes must be attended in addition to six optional classes.
CLASS REQUIREMENTS to be completed in four to six years.

3. Winter Maintenance or Safety Class (1)
4. Leadership Class (1)

Level II • Road MASTER: Upon attainment of Roads Scholar Level I,
