Listening effort is reduced by making speech understanding easier. primax
incorporates existing binax and micon technology while capitalizing on further
innovations to achieve reduced listening effort for easier speech understanding
in a wide variety of speech environments.

This is achieved by selectively activating and steering three key technologies
in parallel: Noise reduction, directionality and now with primax amplification, which
specifically elevates the dominant speaker above all other sounds in the environment.

Effortless hearing
Testing for effortlessness.
The methods used for testing hearing effort in the past were principally subjective and only
recorded after the hearing test. As a result, they were often found to be inaccurate. To obtain
an objective measurement that represents the listening effort, a new method that measures
brain activity was developed.
Getting a truer picture.
The new test method measures ongoing electroencephalographic activity of the brain. By
using ongoing, rather than evoked activity, tests can be conducted over longer periods while
the subject undertakes tasks such as speech intelligibility tests. With this world first method,
we‘re able to prove clinically that primax features reduce listening effort throughout the day.*

SpeechMaster activates speech and noise management to reduce the
unwanted sounds and narrow directionality to let the hearer focus on
speech coming from the front. The voices of the speakers within the
directional cone behind the colleague are also attenuated for clear

At the office, phones are ringing and people are talking across the
open-plan room. For a one-on-one conversation, it’s a distracting
situation.
Speech and noise management together with SoundSmoothing
are automatically activated, reducing unwanted sound such as
the phones. When people around the wearer start speaking,
SpeechMaster also attenuates them and focuses on the main voice,
making understanding effortless.

loud and mingles with the noise of the wind and chatter from the next
table, making hearing difficult.
Here, directional microphones and speech and noise management
are activated, suppressing the traffic sounds while eWindScreen™
binaural cuts down the wind noise. SpeechMaster also attenuates
surrounding sound even further by singling out the main speaker.

Music’s broad dynamic range, reverberant environments and conversations by
telephone are all challenging for hearing instruments. primax PrimeModes offer
sound enhancement programs for all three so that your clients can enjoy outstanding

HD Music: Made for appreciation.
Specially created to deliver an outstanding music fidelity, the HD Music program delivers a superb listening
experience. For a fuller, richer sound and outstanding music quality, it offers wearers three settings.
In concert.
Whether it’s the cello or Yello, HD Music’s special “Live music” setting
is made for listening to live music performances. Its extended dynamic
range is specially designed to handle the wider fluctuations in volume
at a concert for maximum enjoyment.
At home.
The perfect setting for aficionados who love music and immerse
themselves in their music. “Recorded Music” delivers an experience
specifically tailored to give listeners outstanding quality and fidelity
from recorded music.
On stage.
With its extended dynamic range, the “Musician” setting is specially
made for musicians and singers with hearing difficulties. The hearing
instruments concentrate on the music so that wearers hear what they
are playing and singing while they are on stage.

EchoShield: No more bouncing around.
In places where there’s a lot of reverberation, normal hearing
instruments amplify not only direct speech, but also the echoes that
bounce off the walls. These reflected signals get mixed with the direct
speech and the overall sound quality suffers. EchoShield is just made
for situations like these, softening the reflected signal for better sound
quality and reduced listening effort.
On the phone:
Better calls all around.
Whether the wearer is connected to a
Bluetooth phone via easyTek or holding
a phone to their ear, primax hearing
aids improve understanding on the
phone. With easyTek, users can enjoy
hands-free calls via their Bluetoothenabled smartphones as well as adaptive
streaming volume, which always keeps
the streamed phone signal above the
background noise. For those not using
the easyTek, the TwinPhone function,
which works with all phones, transmits
the signal from one hearing aid to the
other, providing better understanding
without the need for additional
accessories.

With binax, the world’s first technology that outperforms normal hearing**, we raised the standard
of Soundability, drawing inspiration from the healthy auditory system. This generation of BestSound™
Technology simulates the effects of binaural hearing and brings its advantages back to the wearer. It
is so powerful that for the first time, wearers with a pair of binax models Carat, Carat A, Pure, Motion
or two-microphone Insio can understand speech in demanding environments even better than

In order to emulate natural binaural listening, we first need to link the two hearing aids, just like the brain uses input from
both ears. Building upon the original e2e technology, e2e wireless 3.0 enables exchange of audio signals between two
hearing aids in a bilateral fitting. As a result, each hearing aid not only uses the information picked up by itself, but also
the acoustic signals received by the contralateral hearing aid. In two-microphone instruments, this means each instrument
works with input from four microphones. In a bilateral fitting, they create a virtual eight-microphone network. Similarly,
e2e wireless 3.0 allows single microphone instruments such as the tiny Insio binax CICs to exchange audio signals between
each other. In bilateral fittings, they create a virtual four-microphone network. These virtual microphone networks provide
a heightened sensitivity of the acoustic environment. We call this “High Definition Sound Resolution” or HDSR.

processing is the underlying driver for the
highest possible performance of the noise

with narrow directionality allows wearers to
hear better than a normal hearing person in

Secure the ear impression to the scanning arm
in the iScan2 and start the program. Thanks to
the high resolution scanner technology, the scan
results are accurate to within 1/50 th of a millimeter.

In about 60 to 70 seconds, the precisely
reconstructed impression will appear on the
screen as a 3D scan. Now you can check it from
all angles and, if necessary, use the software to
add comments for making adjustments.

*Study conducted at the University of Northern Colorado, 2015, examined the
effectiveness of the new features of primax by collecting and analyzing ongoing EEG
data while subjects performed speech testing. For both primax features SpeechMaster
and EchoShield, the objective brain behaviour measures revealed a significant
reduction in listening effort when the feature was activated.
**Two clinical studies have shown that binax provides better than normal hearing in
certain demanding environments (University of Northern Colorado, 2014; Oldenburg
Hörzentrum, 2013): Speech Reception Thresholds (SRT) in cocktail-party situations
improved up to 2.9 dB for wearers with mild to moderate hearing loss using Carat binax
or Pure binax hearing aids with narrow directionality, compared to people with normal
hearing.
