‘HEARTS OF SPRING’
SYNOPSIS
Carly Ashby is an attractive, 40-something single mom who owns a flower shop and writes “Parenting
From the Soul,” a popular parenting blog based on her experiences raising her 18-year old, collegebound daughter, Sadie. Disappointed by Sadie’s growing up too fast, Carly urges her to stay at home
and attend community college. At the flower shop, Carly meets Dr. Andy Sommers, a handsome, 45year old pediatrician, and single father to his 18-year old son, Troy. There is an immediate chemistry
between them. Later, Andy, a strict parent who believes children should be raised with rules and
boundaries, discovers “Parenting From the Soul.” Without knowing Carly is the blogger, Andy
criticizes her liberal parenting style, which encourages parents to engage in open communication with
their children and listen carefully to their needs. Unaware of each other’s real life identities, Carly
(known online as Bestie_mom) and Andy (whose user name is Jugglingdad) engage in a series of
online arguments over their conflicting parenting styles. Jugglingdad chastises Bestie_mom for being
a best friend – not a parent - to her daughter. Meanwhile, Sadie shocks Carly by deciding to
postpone college so she can travel, and Andy is disappointed to learn Troy has been confiding in his
“cool aunt” instead of talking with him. During a chance encounter, Carly and Andy discuss the
tribulations of parenthood, becoming even more attracted to each other. Andy asks Carly out and she
happily accepts. As Carly and Andy enjoy each other’s company in person, their heated online feud
continues, attracting a large following. Responding to a blog post, Jugglingdad suggests Sadie go
away to college so she can both travel and attend school. Thrilled by this suggestion, Sadie tells Carly
she’s decided to go to college in Alaska. Exacerbated, Carly holds Jugglingdad responsible for Sadie’s
decision.
Andy happens upon a Mommy Bloggers event held at a community art center. When he learns
Bestie_mom is a featured guest, he enters the event, hoping to finally get a look at his online rival.
Shocked to find that Bestie_mom is Carly, Andy rushes out before Carly can see him, wondering if he
should reveal himself as Jugglingdad. As Andy takes time contemplating this decision, Carly awaits
his call, disappointed that he appears to have lost interest in her. Inspired by Troy, Andy apologizes
to Carly for disappearing and invites her to dinner. Over a romantic dinner, Carly expresses her
disdain for Jugglingdad. As Andy awkwardly prepares to confess his online identity, Carly glances at
his iPad screen and discovers that he is Jugglingdad. Furious, Carly storms out the door as Andy tries
to apologize for keeping his online identity a secret. Later, Troy shares his sadness over Andy’s not
allowing him to express his feelings. Finally understanding Troy’s – and Bestie_mom’s - point of view,
Andy promises to become a more active listener. The following night, Sadie falls ill. Carly drives Sadie
to urgent care, where, by chance, Andy is covering for the regular doctor. As Andy examines Sadie,
he suggests she attend a nearby college, enabling her to move away, but also come home on
weekends to visit Carly. After determining Sadie will be okay, Andy apologizes to Carly for not being
upfront with her. Carly remains distant, wondering whether or not she should trust him. The next
day, at a Mommy Bloggers symposium in a downtown convention center, Carly is featured alongside
mom bloggers from all over the country. As fans hope Carly will share juicy information about her
online nemesis, Andy surprises everyone by taking the stage, announcing that he is Jugglingdad and
that he has become a better parent by listening to Bestie_mom’s advice. With the live audience
hanging on his every word, Andy tells Carly he loves her and asks if she’ll give him another chance.
Carly and Andy kiss and leave the conference together, a couple in love.
