the flash team weekly newsletter September 28th - October 2nd, 2015 Weekly Announcements -Please make sure you are signing your son/daughter’s agenda each night. It is important that we make sure that
they are being held accountable for their assignments so that there is never any question about homework,
tests/quizzes etc., It is also an easy tool for us to communicate with you about any questions you may have for us. - -Class Dojo & Canvas Sign-up Challenge: -The Flash Team is now on FACEBOOK! Like our page (Team Flash WRMS) for daily updates on homework
and all the happenings here at WRMS! Math Miss Franks & Miss Shortridge Language Arts Mrs. Bancroft & Mrs. Darr 5th Grade: 5th grade is working on reading, writing and saying
decimals. We are also working on writing decimals in
standard, expanded, and written form. They will have
a quiz on Wednesday on everything we have worked
on in lesson 4. We will then move onto lesson 5 where
we will be representing place value using unit blocks
and visuals. We will also be working on comparing
decimals and round decimals once we have an
understanding of how to read, write, and say decimals
to the thousandths. Once we have finished with
decimals, we will be working on our second Unit
Project that wraps up all we have learned over
decimals. 6th Grade: 6th graders are working their way through multiplying
decimals. One way to help the 6th graders be successful
with multiplying decimals is have them practice
multiplying multi-digit numbers. It is really important
for students to keep working on fact fluency. We have
students working on xtramath.com every day in digital
but students can work on this at home too. Look for
our upcoming Unit 2 project to help relate decimal
operations to the real world. 5th Grade: After practicing identifying figurative language in text,
this week we will be assessing their skills. In addition,
we will begin looking at the text structure, “compare
and contrast” as we utilize this skill to find similarities
and differences among characters in Fish in a Tree.
Last, we will continue reading our book for the
quarter, Fish in a Tree, and practice comprehending
grade level fiction texts. P.S. Students need to keep working on their AR goals
(it is on a sticker on the front page of their agenda). 6th Grade: We will continue reading Number the Stars in order to
provide opportunities for students to find textual
evidence to support a text. Additionally, we will begin
practicing identifying the main idea in smaller,
informational texts, as well as provide supporting
details. Lastly, we will continue working on making
inferences in text in order to predict what will happen
next in a story. P.S. Students need to keep working on their AR goals
(it is on a sticker on the front page of their agenda). Social Studies Miss Berrios & Mrs. Taylor 5th Grade: Our 5th graders took their Maps and
Landforms quiz Monday. Ask them how they did! We
are moving on to learn about latitude and longitude
and how to find locations of places on a map. Please
keep studying notes in your SS notebooks and practice
Quizlet (on Canvas). Our next quiz will be over
latitude & longitude and maps. 6th Grade: Latitude and Longitude is on the agenda
for this week! We will be using maps to find the
absolute and relative location of areas on Earth. Please
keep studying notes in your SS notebooks and practice
Quizlet (on Canvas). Expect a quiz over the material
within the next week! Science Miss. Kurtz & Ms. Arthur 5th Grade: This week we are still learning about Food
Chains and Food Webs. However, we are looking at
the importance of an organism’s role in a food chain.
We will begin Symbiosis later in the week and on to
next week. Students should be studying their notes,
more specifically vocabulary. 6th Grade: This week we are still learning about the
Rock Cycle. We will be taking a more detailed look
into specific rock characteristics and traits. Later in
the week, we will begin our soil section. Students
should be studying the Rock Cycle in their journals. Team Teacher Contact Information Ms. Arthur
