French and Indian War-North American war that lasted from 1754-1763; France and Britain were fighting for control of the Ohio River Valley; Spain sided with France, but ultimately Britain won 2. Treaty of Paris-ended French and Indian War; France gave Britain Canada and all French land east of the Mississippi River; Spain gave Britain Florida; France gave Spain New Orleans and all French land west of the Mississippi River; France no longer had any land in North America 3. Cede-to officially give (Ex: France ceded land to Britain after the French and Indian War) 4. Marques de Rubi-in 1766 he began a tour of New Spain and traveled for over 2 years and 7,000 miles; he collected information (good and bad) about what he saw on his tour and gave 4 recommendations to the Spanish government 5. Tejanos-Texas settlers of Spanish descent; several hundred of them lived in the area around Los Adaes 6. Gil Ybarbo-after a large group of unhappy East Texas settlers were forced to move to San Antonio in 1773, he led them back to East Texas after they realized there was no good land left to settle in the San Antonio area 7. Bucareli-in 1774, 1st settlement (in present-day Madison County) established by Gil Ybarbo and the unhappy East Texas settlers after they left San Antonio; it was abandoned due to flooding, disease and Comanche raids 8. Nacogdoches-in 1779, 2nd settlement founded by Gil Ybarbo and the unhappy East Texas settlers after the failure of Bucareli; it was on the site of an old mission and became a successful trading post for goods coming into Texas from Louisiana; also settlers and tribes in the area became friendly and traded with each other 9. Athanase de Mezieres-former French commander put in charge of a new Texas Indian policy; he had worked with tribes for several years and spoke several tribal languages; during the 1770s, he established peace with several northern Indian tribes 10.Soledad Creek-site west of San Antonio where in 1790 a large Spanish force joined with the Comanche, Wichita, and other tribes to defeat the Apache; this defeat weakened the Apache in Texas for years
