majority remained in the 10- to 100-employee bracket.
The economy was kind to some, like Fleming Network Services of Bryant, which
jumped from ninth place last year to fifth this year.
The reason, according to Chris Wallace, the company's senior key account
manager, was the Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers.

"It's a huge outdoor mall, the largest in the state," Wallace said. Fleming
performed electrical work on that project, as well as the nearby Mercy Medical

Center, prompting Fleming to open an office in that area. This growth also sent
Fleming to the top of Arkansas Business' list of Largest IT Consulting Firms. Like
many of Arkansas' security businesses, Fleming performs a wide variety of
technical services.
"There aren't many alarm companies that just do 'three doors and a motion'
anymore," said Jordon Brown, regional manager for Guard Tronics Inc. of Fort
Smith.

Best Security Services Inc., a Little Rock office with 15 employees, stands as
one of the smaller agencies on the list. Owner and President Dennis Dale
Stricklin said local offices stay small because most large clients are attracted to
larger security companies.

"It's difficult for local guys to plug into that business," Stricklin said, adding that
local offices deal mostly with residential customers.
In some ways, the troubled economy has increased business, Brown said.
"If the economy stays down, crime increases and our market picks back up, even
in a 'down' economy," Brown said. "As the economy bounces back, clients now

well. Brown said Guard Tronic was consolidating services and cross-training
employees.
"I'm scaling back everywhere I can," said Stricklin at Best Security, noting that
he closed a second office his team was using specifically for a meeting space.
