Amassable: Collections
with connections
13 October - 3 March 2013
Featuring collections borrowed from
Southampton’s residents and from the
city’s own extensive and diverse holdings,
Amassable is a modern day cabinet of
curiosity. This exhibition explores the stories
behind collections, giving an insight into
the personalities of the people who seek
out, acquire, catalogue, display and care
for their treasures. The ethos of collecting
hasn’t changed through time. The cigarette
cards of the early 20th century were
collected, used and traded in much the
same way as Pokémon cards are now collecting is today what it was yesterday.
What do you collect? Email a photo of
your collection and your story about why
you collect, for inclusion on Tudor House’s

ART to DANCE
Gary Stevens:
Now and Again
28 September 2012 - 13 January 2013,
Gallery 8
Now and Again - Gary Steven’s largest solo
show to date - sees new works displayed
alongside retrospective and seminal
video pieces.
The additional work, Containment has
a sculptural quality to it where images
intermingle on clusters of video monitors in
the gallery.
The exhibition will include two new works
Containment and Now and Again: Westgate,
Southampton alongside his acclaimed video
installations Slow Life and Wake Up & Hide.
Stevens is a British artist who has
developed an inter-related body of work that
spans performances and video installations
since 1984.
Making reference to landscape, still life and
portraiture painting the new works explore
complex representations of time, presence
and absence. Peopled by local inhabitants,
Now and Again: Westgate, Southampton has
been filmed from four different perspectives
at the Westgate in Southampton’s Old Town,
and will reveal an understated, uncanny
aspect to everyday activity with an emerging
sense of synchronicity.

Titanic the Legend
Continues until 30 August 2013
One hundred years after she sank, the
story of Titanic continues to fascinate.
It’s been extensively researched,
remembered, and commemorated.
When did disaster become a
romance? What lessons were learned?
Should artefacts be salvaged from
the wreck site? These are just some
of the questions being posed in this
exhibition.
Local Titanic historians, writers,
academics and scientists explore how
and why the legend endures through
the literature, films and merchandise
that has proliferated from the story.
Whether you have personal links to
Titanic or your interest is academic, or
even if you don’t quite see what the fuss
is all about, this exhibition also invites
you to share your views at interactive
stations in the gallery space.
