SENIORS MATCH REPORT NUMBER7
Our seventeenth match was at home to Boston West. The weather was a little drizzley and damp but
the forecast was to brighten up later. Everyone arrived on time the announcements were made and we
made our way to the first tee. We got off to a good start with Stewart their captain telling us he had just
been chopped by five shots recently, so he was playing off 13 instead of 18. My partner and I played a
very steady game and we came away with a 3 and 2 win. Stewart did have one highlight in the round he
holed his second shot from the 12 fairway for an Eagle, well done Stewart. The second game was also a
convincing win for South kyme, well done Mac and Phill. Our third game was a half and the fourth we
won also. At the halfway stage we were 3.5 to .5 up. We carried on in the same vein in the second half
and finally ended the match with a 6.5 to 1.5 win. Well played South Kyme. Nearest the pin was Paul
Eales with a shot of 13 feet 8 inches to win 2 bottles of wine. The meal after was another delicious
experience, the meat was so tender that most of the seniors with no teeth had no trouble in eating it,
and the Lemon Cheesecake slipped down a treat. Stewart their Captain was very complementary about
the whole day, and everyone departed happy, another good day at South Kyme.
Our eighteenth match was at home to Sandilands. We all arrived on time for coffee and toast and the
teams were read out. Sandilands were unfortunately one player short due to a last minute drop out. The
weather for the day was again very nice being sunny and warm. The first match got underway and after
9 holes we were 1 up, it remained a close game to the 18 hole but we managed a 2up win. We also won
the next two games to go three up. The next match was halved and we won the final four matches to
make it a 7.5 to 0.5 victory. I don’t know if I should name the two who only got the half but let’s just say
that one is very Scottish and the other thinks he is. (Maltese Scottish actually) The meal after was
another triumph with the rice pudding being the star attraction. This is our last home match of this
season and I would like to thank David and all the Catering Staff for their hard work throughout the
season. Most teams are envious of how well we are looked after at South Kyme. Nearest the pin was
won by no other than Peter Williams with a distance of 11 feet and 7 inches. Sandilands Captain, Alan,
was a veritable joke machine he told 2 jokes after the meal along with the 40 jokes he told me on the
course as we went round. He’s a very funny man. Although he did forget his bag and had to come all the
way from Sandilands to get it the next day. Well done South Kyme we have now won 11 drawn 3 and
lost 5 games, splendid effort.
