Asking family and friends to support you financially is sometimes a daunting task, and the Duck Fest
Derby Info Team knows that not everyone is comfortable making that move. Never fear: we’ve compiled
some of our favorite ways to fundraise in this handy section.
General Rules to Remember:
- First rule of fundraising: make a list of everyone you know. Literally everyone. Next, remember
you’re asking your circle to support you in ending child abuse and neglect.
-
“Think like Rocky.” Rocky never gave up. After you’ve sent the email, made an in-person ask, or
Tweeted/Facbooked for support, don’t forget to follow up. People have the intention to support
you, but may forget. Keep the message going strong by communicating about your training,
giving fundraising goal updates, and repeating your commitment to the cause.
-
Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.
-
Saying “Thank you” goes a long way. The most important thing you can do is remember to thank
your donors.
More Fundraising Tips:
- Use the email platform from your Participant Center. You can type a personal note that
highlights your dedication to the children and families KID supports. Merge your email contacts
into the platform to schedule and send these customized messages.
-
Write your request for support in a personal letter. It seems old-fashioned, but Nana will love to
hear that you’re so athletic for a good cause!
-
Get social. Talk about what you’re doing on your networking platforms.
-
Make it water cooler talk. Tell your friends at the office about your investment in the
community. You’d be surprised who will help you out, even if it’s just out of pure amusement!
-
Host an event to help meet fundraising goals such as garage sales, bake sales, birthday parties,
game nights, karaoke nights, poker nights, and wine and cheese parties. Don’t like to host
parties? Let the Duck Fest Derby Info Team help. You make the invite, and we’ll ask your friends
to donate.
-
Start a piggy bank. Every time you have extra change, throw it in the piggy bank for KID.
-
Ask your favorite restaurant or bar to donate a % of their take on a day before your ride.
-
Post it to your church or organization bulletin.
