ANNUAL REPORT 2013-2014
Seton Catholic School is known for groundbreaking pursuits in spiritual development, academic
excellence, and facility enhancements…we continue the tradition this year with the introduction of the
1: Infinity Technology Initiative and the expansion of our campus, opening the Valentine Family Center.
SETON CATHOLIC SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT 2013-14
Message from the Principal
Dear Friends,
The 2013-2014 school year has been a rewarding one for me and for the
members of the Seton Catholic School Community. Our students have
grown spiritually, academically, socially, and physically during this past
year. The members of the Seton Staff continue to embrace our mission of
spiritual development, academic excellence, responsibility to self, and service to others. I am
proud of the numerous accomplishments of our students, in their classrooms and through
various co-curricular activities and competitions. We continue to foster our responsibility to
give service to others through our monthly $1 Dress Down Days sponsored by an individual
grade level with donations from the day benefitting a charity selected by the class. I am also
proud of the community spirit that continues to be built by our I AM SETON Days.
The highlight of the past school year was the opening of the Valentine Family Center. The
benefits of our new space were immediately realized! The Family Center will allow us to have
events which were traditionally held in the Chapel in a more appropriate venue. We anticipate
holding many Seton Catholic School community events in the Family Center. The larger space
will allow for more families to attend Catholic Schools Week Bingo Night, more space for dads
to dance with their daughters, and an even bigger Talent Show. We’ll gather there for concerts
and performances, for STEM Fairs and Wax Museums, for Spelling and Geography Bees, for
Middle School Dances and the Kindergarten Celebration of the 100th Day of School! And
certainly our students will benefit from an expanded Physical Education Program, with two
full-size courts for volleyball, badminton, or tennis, and basketball courts with hoops adjustable
from eight to ten feet. Our SAA Board will use the new space for practices, games, and
tournaments. The Seton Crusaders will have home court advantage!
On behalf of the students and staff of Seton Catholic School - thank you for your generous
donations and pledges that made the Valentine Family Center a reality. Some of you gave your
support to the Spirit of Seton Campaign more than five years ago…Thank you for believing in
the vision! Some of you committed to the Campaign in its earliest stage - the silent
phase…Thank you for providing the foundation! And many of you responded to a campaign
request during the past year…Thank you for ensuring that this facility was completed on time
and without burdening the school with long term debt.
Seton Catholic School continues to be blessed by supporters of Catholic education and of the
mission of Seton Catholic School. May God continue to bless you and your families for your
support of Seton Catholic School.
Blessings,
Mrs. Karen A. Alestock, Principal

Message from the Chairman of the Board
Dear Friends:
It is with great pride that I share Seton Catholic
School’s Annual Report with you for 2013-2014,
our 17th academic year.
It is the mission of Seton and its Board of Directors
to deliver an award-winning education and a
nurturing Catholic environment in a financially
responsible way. Given that we have always kept
the tuition below the actual cost of education, that
objective poses some challenges. That is why
Seton has always relied heavily on fundraising and
unless we drastically increase tuition, we likely
always will.

I am pleased to report that Seton operated within its
budget, even though the last academic year saw the
construction and grand opening of the Valentine
Family Center. As we pledged at the beginning of
that undertaking, we would not build the Family
Center unless we could do it without adding any
long-term debt to the school. That is exactly what
happened.
Through the generosity and
commitment of many in the Seton community, the
Family Center was built on time and within budget.

1: Infinity Technology Initiative
The 1: Infinity Program is a technology initiative that began in grades 6, 7, and 8 at
the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. It blends technology and traditional
learning throughout all subject areas, and infuses 21st century skills across the
curriculum. A key component of this program is the distribution of a Chromebook
computer to each 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student for use at school and at home.





Goals:
Enhance learning
Increase student access to infinite resources
Create opportunities for learning in and out of the classroom
Provide students with the technology base skills and critical thinking tools they will need
to succeed in high school, college, and in future careers
Foster lifelong learners, responsible digital citizens, and creators instead of consumers

A Family Tradition of Faith, Hope, Love and Giving
The story of Seton Catholic School is one of faith, hope, love and giving from the first founding
families in 1996 to our new families who generously share their gifts each day. Guided by our
mission, Seton Catholic School has grown stronger as we continue to celebrate the successes of
our students, staff and alumni. We are grateful to everyone who has helped Seton progress by
making strategic investments to secure our financial future and enhance our campus. This year
we especially recognize the Valentine family, Mike and Beth, and their children Anthony (SCS
2000), Brittany (SCS 2002), and Abigaile (SCS 2004) for their support of the dream that came to
fruition to build a premier facility for physical education, sports, and fine arts. The Valentine
Family Center is a tribute to their faith, hope, love and giving to Seton Catholic School - a lasting
gift to generations of students and families.

A Night to Remember
Live from Signature of Solon Country Club, it’s… SETON NIGHT LIVE
A Night to Remember Annual Dinner and Benefit Auction, November 2, 2013, produced the
largest net profit the event has ever had! Over $170,000 was generated to directly benefit the
students at Seton Catholic School. We were especially grateful to our event co-chairs, Debbie
Smith and Lisa Pierce, for all their hard work and creativity. The evening featured priceless
offerings of students’ creations and Seton Memory Makers, offered by our Teachers and Staff,
which provided unique, unforgettable experiences for the highest bidder.

benefit our school.
