After Mass — Mini Class
Want to learn about the Catholic Mass? Join Friar
Rick in the back half of the pews for a mini class after
the Sunday 10AM liturgy. The topic will be
understanding the Mass. It should last for about 2030 minutes ending no later than 11:30 and Coffee will
be available!
Reflecting on the Gospel
Mary arose “early in the morning” to go to Jesus’
tomb. This image of a new day speaks to us of a new
beginning, new opportunities, new encounters. Early
morning speaks to us of the freshness of new life. By
contrast, this gospel uses the word “tomb” seven
times, speaking to us about the seeming finality of
Jesus’ death. By even greater contrast, the gospel
ends with the Scripture certitude that Jesus “had to
rise from the dead” (emphasis added). Death is
overcome. Death has no victory. God is the Lord of
life. Easter celebrates a new beginning, our certitude
of new life. May we choose that Life.

Adult Confirmation / First
Communion, Penance & Children for
Confirmation
If you or someone you know is a Catholic who has not
been confirmed and would like to be, or is of another
religion and would like to become Catholic please
contact Friar Rick [email protected] or
Sister Ann [email protected]. The same
goes for children who would like to prepare for First
Communion, First Reconciliation or Confirmation.
We are able to offer a customized program for these
sacraments on an individual basis or in small groups.
For children, the parents are involved in the process.
Banns of Ordination
Mr. Philip Slominski, is to be ordained to the
Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Syracuse on
May 14, 2016. Philip is well known to our parish
family as he has been an active member of our parish
for many years.
Canon Law obliges Catholics to reveal to the
bishop or pastor any impediment to sacred
orders.
I ask you all to keep Philip and his family in your
prayers as he prepares to be ordained and serve our
parish and its members.
You’re always welcome at
Assumption!
Whether you’re a visitor, just curious, spiritual-butnot-religious, coming with family or a long-time
parishioner; there is always a place for you among
us. Here’s some information about our life as a
community that might be useful.
Actions speak louder than words!
Feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, sharing coffee with
the lonely… our community can use your help. Email
[email protected] to volunteer for one of our
ministries. Jeff can help you decide what would suit you best
and meet the most pressing community needs.
Joining the Church
Have you been thinking of becoming a Catholic? Are you
baptized Catholic but have never been Confirmed? Call or

you’ve been thinking about. He’ll put on the coffee.
Getting Married
Congratulations! Come and see us as soon as possible (at
least 6 months before you would like to get married) so
that we can help you on this wonderful journey. Yes, it is
usually possible for a Catholic to marry someone of
another religion. Call 315-422-4833 to find out more.

baptize your child? Have you been thinking of this since
your wonderful child joined your family? Call Friar Rick

support your family in this difficult time. We offer
prayers at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy

is allowed, but ideally after the funeral. Call Sr. Ann at
