Track team competes at North Stokes
The Patrick County
High School track team
kicked of the 2016
outdoor season at the
North Stokes Invitational Saturday.
“Overall, we were
pleased with our team’s
performance at the
meet on Saturday, especially considering the
cold, wet, and windy
conditions,” said Coach
Danel Slaydon. “It was
one of the most successful opening meets
we have had in a few
years, and we are excited to continue to watch
our athletes progress.”
Lexy Carico started
the day off for the Cougars with a big win in
the discus. AK Scruggs
added solid a fifth place
finish, and together
they raked in 14 points
for the girls’ team.
Amber Triplett had
a very strong return to
the track, taking fourth
place in both the 100
and 200m. Autumn
Hubbard was fourth in
the 400, followed close-
ly by freshman Lindsey
Marshall. Emma Hubbard was third in 800.
On the boys’ side,
points
came
from
Ethan Gilbert (fifth
in the 800) and Juan
Cisneros (fourth in the
mile).
While we had several
solid individual performances, it was the
day of the relays for
the Cougars. The girls’
4x800m team (Sydnee
Burnett, Macie Rogers, Hannah Roberson, Emma Hubbard)
fought hard from the
gun and came away
with first place.
The boys’ quartet of
Tommy Pauley, Juan
Cisneros, Zach Montgomery and Ethan Gilbert were third in the
same event.
The girls’ 4x200m
team (Lindsey Marshall, Armonte Carter,
Autumn Hubbard, Amber Triplett) was second, and the 4x400m
team (Armonte Carter,

Cougar tennis
drops two matches

The Patrick County High School men’s
tennis team lost two
matches last week. The
Cougars fell to Bassett
9-0 and lost to Halifax
9-0. Both matches were
away since the PCHS
tennis courts were being
repaired last week.
“We really struggled
with unforced errors in
the Bassett match and
made things tougher
than they needed to
be,” Coach Andrew Terry said. “I though we
competed much better
against Halifax and really struck the ball a lot
better,” he added.
“It was good to see the
guys improve so much
from match to match
and hopefully they will
continue that trend
throughout the season,”
he said. “We had a great
practice Thursday and
are looking forward to
the three matches we
are slated for this week.”
