Dear All
.
One man…one lorry… one grab lift,
one hole in the ground and the
makings of one Jurassic Garden!
We recently took delivery of some
large lumps of Jurassic Limestone
from Ham Hill in Somerset to create
the bones of our new project.
Planting is underway for this
wonderful area which we hope will
provide a relaxing space for
children to reflect and ponder life’s
puzzles like… dinosaurs!
Out and About
On Sunday the 18th of May Alfie Malone (6M) took part in a huge fundraising event at the Mayflower in
Southampton. He belongs to the E Minor pop academy in Southampton and they performed in the show
singing lots of pop songs. There were many other children’s clubs also performing for the talent show in
Southampton. On the night every performer was raising money for the High 5 appeal for young heart
patients. The show was called Dancing with Choirs and with their help the target of £500,000 was reached.
Well done Alfie for playing your part in this event and what a fantastic outcome.
Wow to Jack Harrison (RW) who, as
you can see from the photo, reached
the summit of Pen-Y-Fan in the
Brecon Beacons! As you can also see
from the photo, Jack was extremely
pleased with himself! This is the
highest peak in Southern Britain
Jack, so a great achievement. I think
you might be following in your
brother’s footsteps…literally!
Sports Desk
Here are a couple of football success stories sent in.
Oscar Deans, Joe Elliott and Hannah Jeffrey (all in 4K) play for the U9 AFC Portchester Castles team and
recently came 2nd place in the new
style competitive trophy event for this age group.
It started with the 40 teams from the
U9 Sunday league and over the last
few months they have been competing
in a knockout competition.
The final took place on the bank
holiday weekend and consisted of the
last 5 teams to make it through these
knockout stages all playing each
other. The whole team played
brilliantly and were very proud to
come 2nd out of all those teams.
They just missed out on 1st place to
their biggest rivals - typical - but
were undefeated and only
conceded one goal.
.
George Deans, Cade Dyer, Jake Jeynes, (6N) and Cian O'Neil and Alex Cripps (6M) all play for AFC
Portchester U11 Saxons in the Saturday league.
This is their first season as a new team
with a new manager, and they have
done extremely well by coming 2nd
place in their league table.
Not only do they earn themselves
promotion into the league above, they
also had the most goals scored in the
league, with all of our boys
contributing by scoring through the
season (except Alex who plays in goal).
Thank you to Aston Phillips’
mum for this news.
We are very proud of Aston
(1N) as he’s recently
completed his 100m
swimming badge and his level
3 water skills. This is an
exciting milestone as now he
can swim so well, he will be
starting wakeboarding lessons
soon!
That’s great news Aston. I have never heard of wakeboarding – is that the opposite of sleepboarding?!

Musical Notes
Sometimes there are moments in the busy life of a school that seem to stand out and imprint themselves
on the minds of those sharing the experience. The music concert on 3 rd June was just such a moment – an
hour of real delight, listening to a host of different musicians and singers from the school. In addition, we
were treated to performances from some ex-Wicor pupils which included recitals on the flute, saxophone,
violin, tenor horn and guitar and vocals. You could not help but admire their confidence and skill and the
ex-pupils gave our children something to aspire to. Our very own choir, Vox Rox were performing and it
was wonderful to see children enjoying singing – really enjoying their singing too. All in all a great evening
brought together by Mrs Knight and ably assisted by Ruth Leach one of our music teachers.
Thank you to all the children who took part and to the parents who came along and supported the event.
Pets Corner
I had a conversation with a Year 5 pet owner the other day and he told me that his family owned a tortoise,
Georgina, as she is affectionately known. Georgina is a common species from South Africa- a spur thighed,
owing to the fact that she has two 'spurs' on her rear end. Give or take a few years she is well over 100 and
has been in the family since the early seventies, maybe even before that. She is very territorial and just
manages to share the garden with two cats.
It’s amazing that Georgina is perhaps the oldest living member of our school community – unless of course
you know different! Or perhaps you have a pet that is remarkable in another way

Readers’ Lounge Blurb
Can’t wait for the Reading Festival next week. Hope you’ve all had your letters telling you who’s appearing
and thank you to everyone that was able to make a contribution to the week by sponsored reading. It will
be great to welcome Nick Arnold back after several years. Nick supported one of our Science Weeks and
started his day with a whole school assembly. Things were great until he got onto the subject of
cockroaches. In fact, he’d kindly brought some along and proceeded
to take out a carefully sealed tube – after all we wouldn’t want them
getting out now, would we?
Needless to say, the careless man fumbled the tube and oops the lid
came off scattering the cockroaches and in turn scattering the
children. The entire hall emptied. Strange thing was that there were
no cockroaches after all but the experience had brilliantly
demonstrated the human flight or fight response to fear!
Bring it on Nick!
The Wicor Man
If you have any thing you wish to share with the rest of the Wicor community please do let me know. It might be an
achievement, an ambition fulfilled, a new experience, a collection, something that’s inspired, a poem you have written, a
place you have discovered…photos welcome too. You can talk to me, hand a slip of paper in or best of all e mail
